About You Lyrics

I know a place
It's somewhere I go when I need to remember your face
We get married in our heads
Something to do whilst we try to recall how we met

Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten about you?

You and I
Were alive
With nothing to do I could lay and just look in your eyes
Wait and pretend
Hold on and hope that we'll find our way back in the end

Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten about you?
Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten?
Do you think I have forgotten about you?

There was something about you that now I can't remember
It's the same damn thing that made my heart surrender
And I'll miss you on a train
I'll miss you in the morning
I never know what to think about, so think about you
(I think about you)
About you
Do you think I have forgotten about you?
About you
About you
Do you think I have forgotten about you?

Cover art for About You lyrics by 1975, The

"I know a place / It's somewhere I go when I need to remember your face" probably talking about a mental place that he goes to to remember someone. this someone is probably an ex or old flame or something that never quite worked out. hence the thinking about them. also what does he mean about needing to remember her face? does he not remember her face? idgi. he totally does. it's more like remembering her as opposed to face. just clarifying.

"We get married in our heads / Something to do whilst we try to recall how we met" okay it's shifted to "we" so i guess the implication is that they're both in this longing state together. which is crazy bc it seems like they're not in contact. hmmm.,, i love the sound of "we get married in our heads". it probably means smth like - they both are thinking about what it would have been like if it worked out for them. like a repetitive thought of it. the “recalling how they met” is reminiscing. so not only are they thinking about each other but it seems like there's deep deep regret and sadness that things didn't work out and the question will always exist. can't relate lol.

"Do you think I have forgotten? / Do you think I have forgotten? / Do you think I have forgotten about you?" yeah they're def not together anymore and not in contact. why does HE think that SHE thinks that HE forgot about her. why does he wonder about that instead of thinking about HER forgetting HIM. does he just figure that she hasn't? kinda self important of him. anyway like... continuing the longing/ the thinking/ the feeling/ the sadness of someone that you loved/love?? not being in your life anymore and you're kinda stuck in a state of cyclical thoughts.

"You and I / Were alive / With nothing to do I could lay and just look in your eyes" so we're in the past. this is their relationship before the now. it was probably very emotional and heightened. love the way the last line sounds too.

"Wait and pretend / Hold on and hope that we'll find our way back in the end" wait and pretend.... hmmm. i guess it's like the game right. they're no longer together. they're no longer in contact. so it's like waiting and pretending in your head ig bc that's all u got in that situation. the second line is pretty brutal. hold on to what? hold on to the hope? hold on to your feelings? time flies, babe. like... why hold on? bc of the hope of finding their way back to each other. why does that hope exist. i guess it always can, right? idk. sometimes that's the only way to get through it. how does one find their way back, y' know? esp if the circumstances aren't right. but i guess i don't know their story.

"Do you think I have forgotten? / Do you think I have forgotten? / Do you think I have forgotten about you? / Do you think I have forgotten?/ Do you think I have forgotten? / Do you think I have forgotten about you?" more cyclical thinking about this shit. i guess like... do you think i have forgotten? why would she forget? why would he wonder if she forgot? idk i guess it's like - to me the question would be have YOU forgotten about me? i guess it's more like... I'm asking if you think i have forgotten bc i really have not. maybe that's the thinking behind it all. idk.

"There was something about you that now I can't remember" so she's here now. thank god. this is her asking there was something about you that i can't remember anymore. bc maybe she's forgetting... or maybe she's acting like she's forgetting. bc she hasn't forgotten. at all. so she's playing coy or smth.

"It's the same damn thing that made my heart surrender" so she does remember bc she remembers that it made her heart surrender. so like she's scared that HE'S forgotten so that's why SHE "can't remember". bc she hasn't. but she doesn't wanna be the fool in the situation. heard.

"And I'll miss you on a train / I'll miss you in the morning" it's a little specific in the first line so you're like... ok only on a train bc i guess that was smth specific but no.... also in the morning. so basically everywhere and all the time. bet. lol. i love how coy she is. she's like i forgot.... but i didn't..... I'll miss you a little.... but also all the time.

"I never know what to think about," bs. she does!!!!

"so think about you / (i think about you)" he finishes it bc they're both on the same bs. he thinks about her she thinks about him. she's coy. he's crystal clear.

"About you / Do you think I have forgotten about you? / About you / About you / Do you think I have forgotten about you?" loop. doesn't resolve. just. same questions. same cycle. standstill. will it ever get solved? who fckn knows.
