Had It All Lyrics
A thousand lights in the night
Alone in the spectrum
On this sand, I find
And realize
The light will guide you alone
I can position your way
You're going to make it
Enduring the tireless fight
Death in slow motion
I'm growing tired of this scene
Echoes in your past
The light will guide you alone
I can position your way
You're gonna to make it
You had it all
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
You had it all
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
You had it all
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
You had it all
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
Alone in the spectrum
On this sand, I find
And realize
I can position your way
You're going to make it
Death in slow motion
I'm growing tired of this scene
Echoes in your past
I can position your way
You're gonna to make it
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it
Tomorrow's never fine
The peace we lost in ourselves are never found
You're gonna to make it

Seems to be about someone that is keen on ending their life.
This song is about life, death & the struggle to survive within the throes of it all. When you are at the end, your perspective nonetheless changes, the portal to the other side is within view. Mastodon has explained the entire album this song is on is dedicated to their friend and manager Nick John (who died in 2018 from pancreatic cancer). Drummer & vocalist Brann Dailor has also said of the album “We live in this culture that is so against people feeling sad, but it’s natural if you lost something that was important to you.”
Both the above are good points. I think given that Kim Thayil does the solo on this song, it is reasonable to assume it could have some reflection about Chris Cornell
I think it's Troy's general way of trying to connect with those who are contemplating suicide and telling them straight up, "Listen, you may not realize it, but you had a lot to live for. You had a lot more than you realized. Tomorrow is never fine. There will always be something difficult you will have to contend with. That's life. But for everyone else, once you take your life, everyone else has to pick up the pieces of what you did. Their inner peace is lost. Dealing with a loved one who has committed suicide, that peace will never be found. There will always be an emptiness from what that person did and not having them around."
It’s probably no way correct, but I hear a fatherly persona encouraging a young but struggling individual who has already had their share of battles. To me it feels very positive but overall explains to a youthful spirit about how alone it sometimes feels to be human but that’s ok and normal
