Chaos Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Late night and wired, nocturnal type
Putting pen to the paper like it's the last time
Desperation stains the rhyme; syllables stressed
To cause effect whenever the sentence, enter ya mind
Unsteady the level the passion dwelleth on
Proceed to answer the call like it's a telethon
Accept the charges; every direction enters play
Time and inevitability lay the foundation
Chaos is born, and I was born to sort it
Don't even know if it's possible, my thoughts are distorted
Yeah, I got my sword
But it is only ever dreams that are crystal clear
They crystallise the fear
And so I stay awake tonight to try and bottle the lightning
From this brainstorm, forming in darkness
Got me writhing like a newborn... misunderstanding the laughter
Mother, I implore, this isn't my true form
Surely there's been a mistake, it is so cold
I thought that love was supposed to protect, so we were told
And we were scolded when we questioned but that's what children do & like children we believed that your answer was true

[Verse 2]
Late night and I'm fired up
Putting fingers to keys like it's the first time
Like I was blind but I now I see and thirst for rhyme
Like I'm diseased and need a session, hang the IV
Take it all in, switch to live feed
In nomine veritas, I feel like I bleed from my brain
When I try to explain to myself, myself so I can put it to page
And lay to rest the pain and insane levels of rage, ah
Try to order the thoughts, float down memory lane
Sift through memories inexplicably inane
What do they have to do with everything I'm going through?
I'm sure that in the end that everything will have me follow you
Precipice nears, abyssal destiny visible
I know I'll stare too long without an interval
And have it stare back into the core and take its place
Within the dead centre of the chaos behind my face

[Chorus]
Child of time, mother of all
Everything and nothing; the veil will fall
And we will come to you (come to you)
Guided by the Oneirai
Morpheus, cast your spell
Ready, set, destroy
Child of time, mother of all
Everything and nothing; the veil will fall
And I will come to you (come to you)
Guided by the Onerai
Morpheus, cast your spell

[Verse 3]
Late night, I'm delirious_ dancing in the ruins of my sanity
But this ain't voluntary like Anarchy
This is oppression; get the impression of open warfare
Take everything you see and see there's more there
It always returns; the Moirai, they watch us
The Poet and the children of Somnus
Handicap match, no disqualification
It's that time of the year:
Extreme Rules and everybody gets an invitation
So take a seat and enjoy tonight's chaos
The hard yards put into torment will pay off
Nyx, ever present but never watches and never cares
Doing her duty with Erebus in her lair, yeah
The sun rise; I tire despite urge to write
I lay keen and daydream and curse this life
Imagine what it's like to live with somebody else's life
Then fall victim to mine; good night

[Chorus]
Child of time, mother of all
Everything and nothing; the veil will fall
And we will come to you (come to you)
Guided by the Oneirai
Morpheus, cast your spell
Ready, set, destroy
Child of time, mother of all
Everything and nothing; the veil will fall
And I will come to you (come to you)
Guided by the Onerai
Morpheus, cast your spell
Ready, set, destroy

Ready... set... ready... set...
Ready... set... ready... set...
Destroy

Cover art for Chaos lyrics by Dark Side Poet

This song is simply a result of depression, stress, anxiety, and just being a lyricist trying to manifest one's feelings into art. But, as with the rest of the songs from my EP, "The Darkling Plain", there are references to Greek mythology.

"Child of time, mother of all"

  • This refers to the actual cosmological concept of Chaos, the void state preceding the creation of the universe. In Hesiod's Theogony, Chaos was the first thing to exist, predating the gods themselves, hence the term "Mother of All".

"Guided by the Oneirai"

  • The Oneiroi were primordial deities, children of Nyx (night), and taking the form of black-winged daemons were the personifications of dreams.

Morpheus- god of dreams.

Moirai- the Fates.

Nyx- the primordial deity and personification of night.

Erebus- the primordial deity and personification of darkness, and husband to Nyx.
