Wyttch Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Samhain, Samhain
Through this harvest, tread nigh
All hallows' eve
Samhain, Samhain
Under mask, I am stars
Love, lie with thee
All hallows' eve

[Verse 2]
Samhain, Samhain
Take my hand, vex moonlight
Midheaven wanes
All hallows' eve

[Chorus]
Black turns forever turns to sleep
Black turns confessor turns to reap

[Post-Chorus]
Hey
Come call, Autumnus
Start the wheels of Helios
Strike up the lantern
Singe forth darkest peace
We'll follow under

[Verse 3]
Samhain, Samhain
Awaken spirits in thy breath
Love, lie with thee
Samhain, Samhain
Gifting apples that I'd spoilt
To Hallowmass
Love, lie with thee

[Chorus]
Black turns forever turns to sleep
Black turns confеssor turns to reap

[Post-Chorus]
Hey
Hey
Comе call, Autumnus
Start the wheels of Helios
Strike up the lantern

[Chorus]
Black turns forever turns to sleep
Black turns confessor turns to reap
Black turns sinless turns to seed
Black turns protectress turns to reap

[Post-Chorus]
Hey
Hey
Hey
Come call, Autumnus

Cover art for Wyttch lyrics by Smashing Pumpkins, The

On the surface, summer is ending and the author embraces the season\'s change and celebration of Samhain; Hallow\'s Eve, a night to celebrate the dead and \'awaken spirits\' .. perhaps attempt communication, or perhaps be with them in memory and prayer, where Druids (Celtic priests) once burnt offerings and wore animal masks. \n\n"Under Mask, I am stars" may be referring to a sense of protection (the masks protect you from spirits and stars are removed from this ground-level plane of existence,) or "I am Stars" may represent a sense of connectivity to God and the Universe and Mother Nature - heightened by the anonymity of the mask.\n\nOn a deeper, spiritual look, there seems to be a tone of regret (spoiled apples ... misused gifts,) but there is a summoning of Light and beckoning for both Love and the Sun (Helios, perhaps code for the Son, Jesus) and a sense that what once was dark can be forgiven and renewed. Much in nature begins to die, but the earth regenerates. This is a time to recognize things in ourselves that must die so new things can grow. \n\nBlack \'turns to reap\' may be a play on both the harvesting of crops and the "harvest" that is Death itself, perhaps a sacrifice made on this night for atonement or to please \'the Gods.\' The author may also be identifying with the cycles of the seasons.\n\nBlack turns forever, turns to sleep (Winter - the earth sleeps)\nBlack turns confessor, turns to reap (Spring - confession / rebirth)\nBlack turns sinless, turns to seed (Summer - growth)\nBlack turns protectress, turns to reap (Fall - harvest)
