I Thought You Were Dead Lyrics
Now I grow and unfold there are many sides to the soul
And not just one
I thought you was dead
Content with my own thoughts in my own head
That's because I thought you was dead
And it was so nice, so nice
It's all been, it's all been so nice
It's been so...
Happy now, open wide, everything in it's place and time
Now it's mine - I hoped you was dead
Genial to the last, leave the past in the past
This means you - I thought you was dead
And it was so nice, so nice
It's all been, it's all been so nice, nice
It's been...
It's all been so nice, it's all been so..
Freedom now, never gloom, happiness all afternoon
Can't you get this in your thick head?
Sorrow gone, peace won, five words spurred me on
I thought you was dead
And it was so nice, so nice
It's all been so nice
It was so nice, so nice, so...
And not just one
I thought you was dead
That's because I thought you was dead
And it was so nice, so nice
It's all been, it's all been so nice
It's been so...
Now it's mine - I hoped you was dead
Genial to the last, leave the past in the past
This means you - I thought you was dead
And it was so nice, so nice
It's all been, it's all been so nice, nice
It's been...
Can't you get this in your thick head?
I thought you was dead
It's all been so nice
It was so nice, so nice, so...

I think the song is about the death of his inner self deprecating voice. Furthermore, I think it's also about how the world would be a better place in general without certain incompetent agitators (that nobody wants to see) around any longer.
I think it's about someone who makes the world a worse place and who targets Morrissey specifically to the point that Morrissey feels freedom upon this person's death. Let's face it; there are many evil people whom the world can do without.
