I think this is about how war can tear families a part & cause hopelessness and devastation.

I think this is about a father grieving for the loss of his son during a war... It seems like he has some hope left that one day his son will come back, as he hears him asking for help, but he knows the chance is very very small.

the frustration of being helpless as a parent while your kid is in an extremely dangerous situation flows through the song as well...
