Though the girl apparently wants the relationship to continue, NF is fed up with the false accusations and what they're doing to his reputation. "Lie" is about an actual former girlfriend of NF but he doesn't mention her name as the rapper doesn't want to publicly embarrass the woman. NF learned from the experience and was happily married to someone else when he released the song. NF wrote the song with:
