Let's Live Meaningful Lives, Doing Things We Like to Do Lyrics
Some people don't want to be an athlete, get paid to be a brawler
Some people don't want to work in customer service, helping caller after caller
Some people don't want to be on the road all day, transporting goods as a hauler
Some people don't want to work an office job, wear a tie and a shirt with a collar
If ya don't wanna work in a restaurant
Covering food in batter
If ya don't wanna be a server
Carrying drinks around on a platter
If ya don't wanna work in a chapeau shop, no desire to be a hatter
If ya don't want to work any job at all, you still matter
You never have to work a day in your life to be deserving of help if you're going through strife
Ya never have to do a single thing to deserve a home for yourself and your offspring
Everybody needs water, everybody needs food
Those aren't luxury items—don't have that attitude
Even if a person doesn't have a single dollar
Doesn't mean they have to live in squalor
Let's stop being greedy, start being fair
There's enough for everybody if we share
Every creature on Earth deserves clean air
Every creature on Earth deserves healthcare
A chicken and a bunny don't have any money
But they still need help if their nose is runny
A dog and a pig don't have any cash
But they need medical attention if they get a gash
Never exploit animals—we're here to help
Investigate if we hear an animal yelp
I'm not saying veterinarians should work for free
They can be funded publicly
Make helping animals a priority
Take a moment to listen to my plea
Our days of using animals must come to an end
We're not here to hurt animals, we're here to mend
Everybody please get your priorities straight
Take a moment to make your ego deflate
Money spent on things that we don't need
Money hoarded in the name of greed is money not spent on saving lives
I know I'm being blunt—my compassion drives me to speak up for those in need
For the ones who suffer and bleed
I don't have super powers, can't read your mind
But if the dream that I have just outlined
Is giving you just a little bit of stress
I can use imagination, I can take a guess
And say what you are probably thinking:
That my vision for the future is stinking
"We can't make everything free for everyone
Who's gonna pay to help everyone under the sun?"
Everything can be paid for by volunteers
Let me take a moment to calm your fears
Humans don't need money as a motivator
They're aren't lazy—don't be a hater
People get pleasure from being kind
Sometimes grumpy because they need to unwind
Capitalism has people all stressed out
Working a job you hate?
Not what life's about
People are not lazy
They just know capitalism is crazy
They're tired of working at pointless jobs
Just to make gobs and gobs of money for the 1 percent
While they barely have money to pay for food and rent
Give people time off to hug a tree
And stop worrying about money
Let people get caught up on their sleep
Let their thoughts go somewhere deep
They may take a moment to watch some porn
But then they'll realize why they were born
They'll start volunteering at necessary work
Help each other climb out of the murk
Community gardens, plant fruit trees
Build tiny homes so no people freeze
Sanctuaries for rescued creatures
We are all students, we are all teachers
Money replaced community for our security, but we can make a moneyless society
You will see
Use your mental quickness to see through the corporate slickness
People lie to increase their wallet's thickness
Love of money is a sickness
Advertisers use tricks to deceive
They get paid a lot of money to weave
A story that will make ya perceive their products as being something that will help you retrieve the happiness ya used to feel
Before you bought into the spiel
That buying stuff can make you happy
Consumerism is crappy
Use your critical-thinking skills
You don't have to ingest those pills
Don't have to eat creatures with gills or eat corpse burgers from those grills
You don't have to consume that swill
Don't have to drink poison from a still
Shopping may bring a fleeting thrill
But later, when ya get that bill
You'll realize ya have to walk back uphill to the workplace that will slowly kill
Your will to live
Your will to give
Your will to forgive
We're conditioned to think we have to work at a job, and if ya don't, you are a useless slob, but most jobs are not necessary
Many jobs are fuckin' scary
Nobody wants to work in a slaughterhouse just to pay for food for kids and spouse
What we think of as construction and production
Oftentimes involves destruction
The planet comes before the economy
A tree is more important than a shopping spree
And even if your job doesn't harm the planet
Maybe it is boring, gets ya snoring, involves no exploring
Maybe ya just watch the clock all day
Wishing you could go outside and play
But no, ya need money to pay your rent, or ya have to go away
And live in a cave somewhere
And not have clothing to wear
And not get any healthcare
"Work at a job you hate or face starvation" is a threat
We are family, we must never forget
Work together to get our necessities met
Nobody should have to go into debt
We can make the world a better place, do not fret
You and I are family
Even if we've never met
No one deserves to be cold and wet while billionaires are flying in a private jet
Resources are depleting
So we need to stop competing
Work together for the common good
Listen to each other so we're understood
Care about the people on the other side of the planet
And in your neighbourhood
Compassion for all
Winter, spring, summer, and fall
Some people don't want to work in customer service, helping caller after caller
Some people don't want to be on the road all day, transporting goods as a hauler
Some people don't want to work an office job, wear a tie and a shirt with a collar
