You were my halogen, guiding me home
My only weapon when I was alone
You were a big city, one I got lost in
And when you spoke with me, I fell open
I fell open

But did you know that cost when you broke your promise?
(I was unprepared)
That when your bombs went off they would come down on us

I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
And you almost had me

I thought you were showing all your colors
But you were in sheep's clothing
The mind of another
Can a slave preach freedom?
Can a captive take hold of what they believe in?

But did you know that cost when you broke your promise?
(I was unprepared)
That when your bombs went off they would come down on us

I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me
With a blindside
And it hurt so badly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me

I guess I knew when your heart stop beating
I'd never let you sink your teeth in
I guess I knew when your heart stop beating
I'd never let you sink your teeth in

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh (you almost had me)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh (and you almost had me)
I guess I know when your heart stop beating (oh, oh, oh)
And you almost had me
I guess I knew when your heart stop beating (oh, oh, oh)

I was a knife in a gunfight
And I fought so madly
You were a wolf in the daylight
And you almost had me

    Song Meaning

The song is about coming to terms that the person you trusted & idolized is actually no good for you. That they only have their own best interests at the forefront of their decisions and don't care how their actions will effect others. And going into the situation naïve, and therefore unprepared, is essentially like showing up to a gunfight with a knife. It's so much harder to turn away from someone you trust, cared about, or even love. It's about almost losing yourself in this bad/negative relationship because your feelings have blinded you to the fact that they're manipulating & hurting you. But in the end, even though it was a hard fight, you made it through. You recognize that you deserve better & are strong enough to move forward without that person in your life.
