Titles are important! This song is named Ode To JIm, therefore it's quite obvious that Jim Reid is a titular character, strongly suggesting he is the protagonist as well. This song that carries an upbeat catchy melody may have a deeper meaning--at least in my eyes. It seems like someone (it could be Molly Rankin herself) is reminiscing about times they shared with Jim. “and that's when I discovered that my heart exploded.” “you’re a lollipop in my hair” “and I don’t have the patience to wait in line for you.” These lyrics suggest that they are quite smitten by him. But, If someone is reminiscing about someone whom they had romantic feelings for what could this annotate? Perhaps that person (Jim in this case) has passed away, or they’ve broken up, etc. Since I prefer a soul crushing story my first interpretation was, Jim has passed away (“You're alone in this picture and it swallows me whole”), therefore someone(his passed lover) is writing an ode to him. Or it could just be a cute little song about someone’s love life, of course.
