Land of Shattered Dreams Lyrics
Can you now imagine your life?
Desolate, detached, and all alone
Your best friend is your desperation
In a world of unbelievers, how are we to keep our dreams alive?
Sometimes escape seems like the answer
Take one last chance
A chance to start it over
Somewhere, somehow
A place we all belong
Within this land of shattered dreams
Where the days seem never-ending
Can you ask yourself tonight what it means?
Can we really leave this world behind?
For just a moment in a lifetime
And a chance to be free
From all reality
Who said that what we all see
Is exactly what we must believe?
Sometimes it's hard to know the difference
In a world of mass illusion
Who are we to question what is real
Sometimes it feels like mass confusion
Take one last chance
A chance to start it over
Somewhere, somehow
A place we all belong
Within this land of shattered dreams
Where the days seem never-ending
Can you ask yourself tonight what it means?
Can we really leave this world behind?
For just a moment in a lifetime
And a chance to be free
From all reality
Take one last chance
A chance to start it over
Somewhere, somehow
A place we all belong
Within this land of shattered dreams
Where the days seem never-ending
Can you ask yourself tonight what it means?
Can we really leave this world behind?
For just a moment in a lifetime
And a chance to be free
From all reality
Desolate, detached, and all alone

It seems like it has the same themes as "Reasons to Live", "Once in a Lifetime", and "Tomorrow's Kings" but with a more subtle title The first lines show a situation in which a person's beliefs and dreams are being discredited and their friends leaving them. This causes the "Character" to contemplate suicide. The first part of the Chorus gives the idea that even considering all the darkness, one must keep on taking chances and protecting what they feel is right. The second part of the chorus is basically saying "Would you trade everything for just one moment in which you are free from the world, even considering all the good that exists here?" The second verse says that there really isn't any set world view, so there's no need to be bothered by those who think differently.
Song talks about everyone being stuck in a pattern of everyday life with no hope of changing. This could be just from a certain sense of conformity to society. the first line indicates that the world doesn't believe in chasing dreams or doing anything out of the norm. the narrator is saying that we need to escape this world and not conform to society, even for just a moment.
