Still Beating Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I never meant to make her cry
And now I'm seeing tears in her eyes
Half and half, make believe
'Cause so she thought, well my heart was on my sleeve

[Chorus]
Honey, I cried too
You better believe it
Honey, my heart still beats for you
Even though you don't feel it
Beating

[Verse 2]
Never thought some silly songs could ever go and hurt someone
I never meant to sing my tune for anybody else out there but you

[Chorus]
Honey, I cried too
You better believe it
Honey, my heart still beats for you
Even though you don't feel it

[Outro]
Honey, I cried too
You better believe it
Honey, my heart still beats for you
Even though you don't feel it
Beating

Cover art for Still Beating lyrics by Mac DeMarco

DeMarco sings of a guy who engaged himself with another woman that was not his partner, either attention-wise or affair, but either way, it seems to have caused his partner much pain. "Never thought some silly songs could ever go and hurt someone I never meant to sing my tune for anybody else out there but you". Whether it is true naïveté, or not, the lack of foresight at times can cause the people we love a lot of pain, whether we intend to or not. I've found myself in similar shoes to the singer before. It is a terrible feeling, and I think the regret is felt after you step back and realize your mistakes. DeMarco sings in a longing way, almost trying to console the woman, that he suffered too, and that he still loves her, even if she never hears his message.
