The song is about a wanderer who is confronted by a sultan, who tempts him to give in, with the sultan promising him an ancient kingdom in the afterlife.
the wanderer attempts to overthrow the sultan and at this point is sentenced to death which is the basic theme of the album and is caught in the middle of a war in the desert and watches both the death of his home country by also the slow and inevitable death of himself but the process is so slow and painful that he starts to await the end.
