I see this as a metaphor for Ricky’s, the lead singer, struggles with alcohol. He’s spoken about it a little before in interviews and I can see how song could discuss how he dislikes how he changed when under the influence. Perhaps it hindered him on stage too “you make me drop a line, at times I miss my cue” but yet it was the escapism he sought when overwhelmed “why you so sad?” Then there is the double meaning of the 0800-Good-Clean-Fun, mimicking a help hotline but also being a vice he resorted to as well for help from everyday struggles.
