When I first heard the song, I thought it was about a friend that had committed suicide and the person singing this is talking about he and his friend kept trying to move on in life despite difficulties, but now that he's gone, he's saying that they'll meet again - in Heaven, perhaps, or the afterlife.
Though after looking closely at the lyrics, it could be about a child of the singer's that was lost to a miscarriage. I heard some people say that that is actually what happened to the singer and if that's true, then it makes a lot of sense.
