Silhouette Lyrics
Stood at the cold face
Stood with our backs to the sun
I can't remember being nothing but fearless and young
We've become echoes, but echoes to fade away
We've fallen to the dark as we dive under the waves
Devils on your shoulder
Strangers in your head
As if you don't remember
As if you can forget
It's only been a moment
It's only been a lifetime
But tonight you're a stranger
Some silhouette
Let's go out in flames so everyone knows who we are
'Cause these city walls never knew that we'd make it this far
We've become echoes, but echoes fading away
So let's dance like two shadows, burning out a glory day
Devils on your shoulder
Strangers in your head
As if you don't remember
As if you can forget
It's only been a moment
It's only been a lifetime
But tonight you're a stranger
Some silhouette
Just hold me (4x)
Devils on your shoulder
Strangers in your head
As if you don't remember
As if you can forget
It's only been a moment
It's only been a lifetime
But tonight you're a stranger
Some silhouette
Only been a moment
It's only been a lifetime
But tonight you're a stranger
Some silhouette
But tonight you're a stranger

Honestly, I think its about being younger - having no cares in the world and just feeling like you can do whatever you want, be whatever you are and go wherever you want. Then I feel like the narration grows up - starts realizing how difficult life can be and the things it can bring - both bad and good. Its like a story of someone's life.

I came here also hoping someone else gave it a go... but since that's not happening, here's my thought:
From what I gather they're definitely a couple that's splitting up.
"Stood at the cold face / Stood with our backs to the sun" - they both looked at things negatively
"I can remember being nothing but fearless and young" - they're older now, changed
"We've become echoes, but echoes, they fade away / We've fallen to the dark as we dive under the waves" - (said by his partner) they said they're estranged or no longer compatible, maybe a long-distance relationship or something else heavily strained their relationship. the partner thinks they've grown apart
"The devil's on your shoulder . . . " - after so many years something's changed with them? maybe something changed very quickly
"Let's go out in flames . . ." - let's go out with a bang (puns intended)
Couple breaking up because something's changed and there's strife between them, and they decide to have one last "dance".
Well google finally showed me the real answer...

“Silhouette” This is purely a reflection of our past, growing up with girlfriends and friends throughout the years of us making music together. There came a time where we had to leave Silverdale and move to London and we suppose this song explains how some of the people closest to us felt at the time. We’d spent some time in Iceland, in Reykjavik, with Ólafur Arnalds working on the record, adding strings and really thinking about the sonics of it all. He really took to this song and we suppose it set the scene for us.
