Well you don’t know me
So do just as you please
But don’t fake love with me unless you mean it
Pick a story
I know who to be
But don’t fake love with me unless you mean it
Don’t fake love with me unless you mean it

[Chorus]
Some lies are enough
If there is no other way
And you can’t hold who you want
Sometimes it’s enough
Guess there is no other way
But you control where you are
Pretend I’m yours
And you’re all mine

So never leave me
Until I need to sleep
And don’t fake love with me unless you mean it
Yeah, you can own me
Knock me to my knees
But don’t fake love with me unless you mean it
Don’t fake love with me unless you mean it

[Chorus]

Hey!

[Bridge x2]
Tell me this time it comes straight from the heart
Tell me it’s forevermore
You’re a liar, liar, liar, liar, liar
Your love song, sung on your own
Tell me that this time it goes on forever
Tell me you’ll never let go
You’re a liar, liar, liar, liar, liar
Your love song, sung on your own

You’re a liar, liar, liar, liar, liar
Your love song, sung on your own

You’re a liar, liar, liar, liar x4

    General Comment

A side comment into the artist himself before i go to the lyrics of this specific song; Whitey is a musical genius with less apreciation for his talents in this XXi century than he should have in the last 20 years of musical industry blank shots.

This tracks lyrics are obvious from the track tittle to any of the verses throughout.

In the end, he's not looking to fake love, though he know it's the only type coming from this partner to whom he writes. It is obvious that he's on a path outward and forward, away from this partner who'll be left singing her love song, her lies. He knows the lies by heart, the fakeness of it all, the loving lines that mean nothing to said lover who nonetheless keeps repeating them as a mantra; a tapestry of loving deceit that the singer is now seeing transparently and leaving behind.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
