Pretty Pimpin Lyrics
I woke up this morning
Didn't recognize the man in the mirror
Then I laughed and I said
"Oh silly me
That's just me" Then I proceeded
To brush some stranger's teeth
But they were my teeth
And I was weightless
Just quivering like some leaf come in the window of a restroom
I couldn't tell you
What the hell it was supposed to mean
But it was a Monday
No a Tuesday
No a Wednesday Thursday Friday
Then Saturday came around
And I said
"Who's this stupid clown
Blocking the bathroom sink?"
All he ever wanted
Was to be someone in life
Who was just like
"All I want is to just have fun
Live my life like a son of a gun"
I could be one thousand miles away
But still me
What'd I say?
Then I woke up one morning
Didn't recognize the man in the mirror
Then I laughed and I said
"Oh silly me
That's just me" Then I proceeded
To not comb some stranger's hair
Never was my style
But I couldn't tell you
What the hell it was supposed to mean
Cuz it was a Monday
No a Tuesday
No a Wednesday Thursday Friday
Then Saturday came around
And I said
"Who's this stupid clown
Blocking the bathroom sink?"
But he was sporting all my clothes
I gotta say pretty pimpin
All he ever wanted
Was to be a man
But he was always
A little too cute to be admitted and then all was lost
He was always a thousand miles away
While still
Standing
In front of your face
Then he woke up this morning
Didn't recognize the boy in the mirror
Then he laughed and said
"Oh silly me
That's just me" Then I proceeded
To brush some stranger's teeth
But they were my teeth
And I was weightless
Just quivering like some leaf come in the window of a restroom

This is a song about finding yourself and having the strength to be it in the face of adversity.
All of our lives we're told who to be, and until we decide it for ourselves, we'll continue to be somebody else. And then when you find the true you, and the past you fails to recognize it, It won't matter, because you'll know who are really are, and you'll like it

Since he also sings something about "lost marbles", I would say the lyrics are no metaphor but about disassociation: He literally does not recognize the face in the mirror, he is annoyed by the stranger in the bathroom, he switches into third person at one point ("All he ever wanted..."), and he literally does not know which day it is. But he takes it with a wink ("But he was sporting all my clothes, I gotta say pretty pimpin'").
It's about exhaustion. When you're startled by the man or woman in the mirror, it's a bad sign and often an effective wake up call which means you need to wake up and look at something that made you mentally exhausted.
It's about being a man who can stand up to criticism. Also seeing yourself in the mirror as a stranger. Then thinking you are dressed somewhat OK (pretty pimping).
I just imagine this song is the feeling that life is going better than expected…walking around head in the clouds and then accidentally catching a glimpse of yourself like oh dang, I’m pretty fly. Sometimes looking up to better folks than us makes us scoff (maybe jealousy or what have you) but Kurt looks up and sees himself in a good image for once. Unrecognizably. He’s probably so impressed with what he sees that he can’t help but recall all the longing he once held.
