I personally identify this song to my life sometimes, and in my opinion the whole message is metaphoric.The "mindless beasts" are inner demons, like fear, mediocrity or depression, and as they're inside his head, he feels like they are always hunting him. The main topic for me is self-improvement and getting better in whatever you do instead of letting your these demons 'blind' you, but making it clear it will never be easy, it is tiring and takes hard work, and you may feel like your humanity is running away at some point.
