To add on to @Mellow_Harsher 's comment I also think it sort of saying that looks aren't everything. That is, with his partner he wants someone always there, when the other "temptations" think purely because they are "pretty" that he'll cheat (perhaps think they are "prettier").
By using the term cheerleader he is not only saying she is in his corner always (deep connection), but that to him she is beautiful (the epitome of a cheerleader) ... although others may feel she is not the prettiest.
Maybe he thinks she's prettier than these other girls because he says "No, not really cause Oh I think I've found myself a cheerleader. She is always right there when I need her". When I first heard this song, I thought he said "Cherry lips" and "cherry ass", but now I know he's really saying "Cheerleader".
