I think this song is all about growing up and the loneliness that comes with losing and outgrowing old friendships and relationships. That feeling when you want to go back and get in a final word or rekindle the relationship but you realize that there is no real hope because of how much you have both grown up and a part. Both that pain of loss and aging but that continuous comfort in the little things life offers like rain. That little hug from the world that lets you know it will all be okay
