Way Out There Lyrics

I'm a long way from the land that I lived
I've been running through life and cruising toward death
If you think that I'm scared you got me wrong
If you don't know my name you know enough

I belong bodily to the earth
I'm just wearing old bones from those who came first
There are many more flames but mine is gone
They will build me no shrines and sing me no songs

I'm a long way from the one that I love
Tired of tending old flames lamenting went worse
Drifting in a land that turned from God
If you think I've changed you know me not

I belong bodily to the earth
I'm just wearing old bones from those that came first
I've been out rebelling since my birth
Gonna wander out there
See what I'm worth

Find me way out there
There's a road that will lead us there
When you follow the strange trails
They will take you who knows where
If I found a way to stay with you tonight
It would only make me late for a date I can't escape

Find me way out there
There's a road that will lead us there
When you follow the strange trails
They will take you who knows where
If I found a way to stay with you tonight
It would only make me late for a date I can't escape

My Interpretation

I think this song is a celebration of being brave when it comes time to face your death. It’s about the acceptance of the unknown by using curiosity and optimism for a new experience. \n\nMy favorite line is \n“I belong bodily to the earth, I’m just wearing old bones from those that came first.” I think that’s an awesome way to explain the relative insignificance of our existence while also conveying the wonderfully rare and unique natural phenomenon of human life. The atoms that make up by body physically belonged to life before me. I’m just recycled stardust. To me, it gives courage to someone fearful of dying by making something so personal seem like a shared experience. And that makes me feel optimistic about a scary thought.
