West Lyrics

Maps stretched out
Too many miles to count
Let’s just say we’re inches apart
Even closer at heart
And we’ll be just fine

Another pin pushed in
To remind us where we’ve been
And every mile adds up
And leaves a mark on us
And sometimes our compass breaks
And our steady true north fades
We’ll be just fine

We’ll be just fine
We’ll be just fine
We’ll be just fine
I know that we will
I just know we will

Time moves slow
When half of your heart has yet to come home
Every minute’s adding up
And leaving a mark on us

I can’t get you out of my mind
I can’t get you out of my mind
I can’t get you out of my mind
I solemnly swear
I swear that I’ll never try

We’ll be just fine
We’ll be just fine
We’ll be just fine
I know that we will

We’ll be just fine
We’ll be just fine
It’s a matter of time
'Til our compass stands still
'Til our compass stands still

This song...Really gets to me. To me, it's about a long distance couple who struggles, of course with the many miles separating them from being together. They face many challenges, loss of hope at moments, thinking the other deserves better, or thinking they need time to themselves to catch their dreams, but they'll be back because their love is stronger than most, they'll never forget each other, they swore they would never leave, they'll be okay in the end, love pulls through, they'll be okay until finally they're together... Soon

I absolutely love this song. I think metaphorically, it's about a couple whose relationship never seems to work out because their lives took completely different paths. Their relationship is on/off because something always prevents them from being together but eventually they end up happily together.

"Another pin pushed in To remind us where we’ve been And every mile adds up And leaves a mark on us" All the problems they had to endure only strengthens their love.

Maybe I'm completely missing the point, but that's part of my interpretation.

To me this song is about two lovers who love eachother very much, but something is keeping them apart. Wether it’s distance, other people, or anything else. However despite this, “we’ll be just fine” (x4) says how they will continue loving each other and eventually end up being together at last.

Aside from a long distance couple, this can be about moving away. Maybe you’re leaving a job you love, a city that you love, and/or people you love. It hurts, and sometimes you don’t really know if you’re doing the right thing but you know in the end you’ll be just fine.
