3 Years Older Lyrics

You cross the schoolyard with your head held down
And walk the streets under the breaking cloud
With a 100 futures cascading out
It’s complicated

You think of love as just a memory
A fog that smothers you, its hard to breathe
But when you're on your own that’s when you're free
You're three years older
And you’ll always be now

I can feel you more than you really know
I will love you more than I’ll ever show

There was a time when someone seemed to care
A tourist in your bed you left him there
You found a simple life with no-one to share
It’s not complicated

You make a list of all your big regrets
You share with people that you never met
You slowly move towards the medicine chest
You're three years older
And you’ll always be now

I can feel you more than you really know
I will love you more than I’ll ever show
You only have to say
And the world will slip away
From you

Shame on you for getting older every day
This place is not for you so why do you still stay?
You stand there with the other fuckers in the rain
Life is not some sinecure for you to claim
You have to pay

I can feel you more than you really know
I will love you more than I’ll ever show
You only have to say
And the world will slip away
From you

Why has NO ONE commented about this masterpiece? Every time I hear it it makes me levitate.

I believe in the line "Life is not some sinecure for you to pay" SW actually says "claim" instead of "pay". Otherwise, the next line "You have to pay" would make no sense. If life is not a sinecure to be paid, why would he say that you have to pay it afterall?

My Interpretation

@JucaOPastor Good point. I think if you arrange the line and switch "to pay" with "for you" the meaning becomes clearer, since all it say than is, that life wont take care of anything (hence the "to pay for you") unless you dont take care of your life. To me this song is about failing to reflect oneself properly and getting carried away by all the sorrow and obstacles in life, while all you had to do was to realise, that you are actually in charge

I think this is the beginning of Joyce Carol Vincent\'s story with her brother (at least as far as this album is about), whereas Happy Returns is the end. This is from her brother to her. Happy Returns is from her to him. \n\n I went through something similar with my sister. \n\n"I can feel you more than you really know\nI will love you more than I\'ll ever show."

My favorite line is

You stand there with the other fuckers in the rain Life is not some sinecure for you to pay You have to pay

It's pretty clear the meaning. We can't expect life to be good for free.

@spiraleyes claim, not pay.

This song is about a kid that commits a mass murderer at his school... And is been in jail for three years (since he did it)...

"You're three years older And you’ll always be now... "...You slowly move towards the medicine chest..."

This tells me he finally committed suicide.

The song Routine is one of the moms of the victims...

My Interpretation

@giny102633 I would denfinitely think you're a lunatic if there's no Routine in this album. But right now I'm thinking the possiblity of your interpretation...
