@Ozymandias25 I was thinking more along the lines of an abusive relationship. The hand represents the abuse, whether it's literally physical or not. Assuming gender norms and the female subject of the album, it's likely concerning her and a Stockholm-Syndrome-like complex that many develop in abusive relationship, accepting and justifying the abuse as just a part of the relationship. The literal e-mails home are saying, "everything is great!" Clearly, it's not.
