Lionsong Lyrics

[Intro]:
Maybe he will come out this
Maybe he won't
Somehow I'm not too bothered either way

[Hook 1]:
Maybe he will come out of this loving me
Maybe he will come out of this
I smell declarations of solitude
Maybe he will come out of this

[Verse 1]:
Vietnam vet comes after the war
Lands in my house
This wild lion doesn't fit in this chair

[Hook 2]:
Maybe he will come out of this loving me
Maybe he won't
I'm not taming no animal
Maybe he will come out of this

[Verse 2]:
Once it was simple, one feeling at a time
It reached its peak then transformed
These abstract complex feelings
I just don't know how to handle them
Should I throw oil on one of these wounds
But which one?
The joy peak
Humor peak
Frustration peak
Anything peak for clarity

[Hook 3]:
Maybe he will come out of this loving me
Maybe he won't
I'm not taming no animal
Maybe he will come out of this

[Bridge]:
Maybe he will come out of this
Maybe he won't
Somehow I'm not too bothered either way
Somehow I'm not too bothered either way

I refuse, it's a sign of maturity
To be stuck in complexity
I demand all clarity

[Outro]:
Maybe he will come out of this
Or he will feel solitaire
Somehow I'm not too bothered
I'd just like to know

Pretty self explanatory. Bjork is trying her hardest to work through her and her lovers problems, but even if they don't work out, she know's that she will be ok regardless.

My favourite song from Vulnicura by far.

Song Meaning

I think this song - like most of "Vulnicura" - is a break-up song, as if Björk is expecting a break-up soon after a particularly nasty dispute. The linear notes inside "Vulnicura" lists this as "five months before" the break-up, so I think Björk probably knew that the break-up was coming shortly. Björk sings about how she wishes he could "come out of this", as if she can't believe/comprehend how her partner is acting. It helps foreshadow later in the album, when the break-up has actually happened.

That's what I took away, anyway :)

My Interpretation

This song is about trying to take care of a veteran. Veterans come out with a complex disorder known as post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD. They actually have flashbacks of their time in war. People call them pissants, threats, snowflakes, etc. Why don't you try thanking one for protecting your sorry ass from such violence that it is basically raping, pillaging, and plundering?

Can you believe it that some lady of the lake, night hag once said to me, "Desert Storm's got nothing on me."
