Wounded Animal Lyrics
I carried your heart like a wounded animal, soft
I kept my condolences to myself, soft
I spent my last hours defending how I fell
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
I carried your love with a kind of urgency, scared
I kept all my senses from feeling you too much
But I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all
I kept my condolences to myself, soft
I spent my last hours defending how I fell
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I carried your love with a kind of urgency, scared
I kept all my senses from feeling you too much
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I lost myself when I found you in the fall
I left it all
I didn't try harder
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
I didn't try at all

This song is beautiful, heartbreaking and so underrated. Mary Lambert is an amazing performer, enough people don't appreciate it. Sometimes, with a lot of songs, you can't exactly tell what it's about or how the singer is supposed to feel, because it's so subtle. But Mary Lambert is so direct and upfront about her feelings, which I love, because it makes her performance so much more believable and real. And that's not an easy thing to do, to reveal how vulnerable you are. Literally, each "I'm sorry" she sings doesn't sound like just a mere repetition of words, she pours her heart into each one, to the point where someone listening to the song can feel exactly what she felt. You can tell that she really IS sorry.
