I wanna dance
I wanna dance
I wanna dance
With a black woman

I wanna still
I wanna still
I wanna still
My mind

And I want a chance
And I want a chance
I want another chance

To distill
To distill
That time

And I wanna write
And I wanna write
And I wanna write
To someone so true

I wanna wake
I wanna wake
I wanna wake
From hot dreams, hot dreams of you

Oh, hot dreams

I wanna rise
I wanna rise
I wanna rise
Up beside you.

I want to be
I want to be
I want to be
A champion in your eyes

I wanna follow through,
Follow through on all my promises and threats to you babe

Hot streams
Hot streams will
Fork and divide
Fork and divide

I wanna take
I wanna take
I wanna take
Take all of your air

I wanna find
I wanna find
I wanna find
Another daydream, another nightmare

I wanna lie
I wanna lie
I wanna lie
Lie me down in your stream

I wanna wake
I wanna wake
I wanna wake from hot dreams

I wanna wake from hot dreams of you babe
I wanna wake from hot dreams of you babe

    Song Meaning

Short Version: A serial stalker/rapist getting his fix by killing another victim.

    Long Version:

I wanna dance, I wanna dance I wanna dance with a black woman

    • He's chosen his victim. A pretty black woman.

I wanna still, I wanna still I wanna still my mind

    • His mind is unstable and gives off the notion that he suffers mentally and perhaps emotionally.

And I wanna chance, I wanna chance I want another chance

    • He's had a relationship with someone like his intended victim before. Whether its looks or something else that compares his previous victim to the current one is unknown.

To distill To distill that time

    • Stuck reliving the memories he had of the first victim.

And I wanna write, I wanna write I wanna write to someone so true

    • Love letters that are probably extremely overbearing and involving make-believe scenarios, from his interpretation of who the victim is.

I wanna wake, I wanna wake I wanna wake from hot dreams Hot dreams of you Oh hot dreams

    • His fantasies. Hot dreams themselves could be taken as sexual or deviant but in this instance, I almost take these lyrics literally imagining the stalker to literally wake drenched in sweat excited to be fantasizing about his soon to be victim.

I wanna rise, I wanna rise I wanna rise up beside you

    • Could be literal of him appearing next to her or could be more fantasy of him with her.

I want to be, I want to be I want to be a champion in your eyes

    • Pure delusion at this point. He put's this woman on a pedestal and is attempting to be her champion, her man, even though there is nothing there to admit that.

And I wanna follow through, follow through On all my promises and threats to you babe

    • Kind of blatant. His letters have probably had threats of killing her or raping her probably worded well and he wants to make good on those... "promises and threats".

Hot streams, hot streams Will fork and divide, fork and divide

    • Purely up for interpretation but it sounds like hot streams are his penis (and semen) and fork and divide, is her struggling against the rape because of the violence of the moment.

I wanna take, I wanna take I wanna take, take all of your air

    • He kills her. Makes her stop.

I wanna find, I wanna find I wanna find another day dream, another nightmare

    • His victim is gone, and he's already thinking of the next one. His next fantasy.

I wanna lie, I wanna lie I wanna lie, lie me down in your stream

    • Interpretive, but I think there may have been blood at some point once she was dead. Maybe dismemberment maybe blood is coming from the wound in which he either stabbed her, slit her throat, or shot her.

I wanna wake, I wanna wake I wanna wake from hot dreams

I wanna wake from hot dreams of you babe

    • The fantasy is ended. Almost conjectural, he's confronted with knowing that these "hot dreams" are not real though his actions are.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
