Castle in the Snow Lyrics

The light is fading now
My soul is running on a path that I can not reach
My brain is turning and my head is hurting
everyday a little bit more

The light is fading now
My force is being sucked by a bloody leech
My fear is smiling and my dread is singing
every night a little bit more
I can not see anything
I am blindfolded

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky
It's a battle cry

I'm a zombie
I don't know what to do
I should be hidden in a place
but I gotta stay stay, stay stay stay STAY
I'm so lonely
I don't know if I'll get through
I wanna be floating in space
but I gotta stay stay, stay stay stay STAY

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky
It's a battle cry

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky
It's a battle cry

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky
It's a battle cry

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky

I can hear the birds
I can see them fly
I can see the sky
It's a battle cry

I think this song is about depression and paranoia My soul is running on a path i cannot reach She cannot reach her dream or the thing she wants

The light is fading now, my force is being sucked, my fear is smiling She cannot see the light, doesn't have a reason to continue and she fears everything She's "blindofolded" and "cannot see anything" because of this thought in her mind that stops her from seeing the beautiful things in life

In the next part to be honest I hear I "COULD" see the birds, I could see them fly which means she cannot see the beautiful sky anymore nor the birds flying in it I think "It's a battle cry" actually is "It's about to cry" . You know when you look at the sky it makes you happy because it's so blue and bright, but in her mind even the sky is dark and is about to cry.

"I don't know what to do... but I got to stay .." she wants to end this pain and leave this world so she can "float in space" but there are reasons he has to "stay" (perhaps because there is still a little hope left or because of her close ones)

@MsLostTreasure I agree that some of the lines are hard to make out from hearing, especially the 'battle cry' line from the chorus. But these are the official lyrics from the LP booklet, so I guess that's really what she sings here.

It seems to me a process of dying and her soul is stuck in this place. So she is dead but stuck as ghost or something :) Does it make sense?

My Interpretation

The song feels like it is about depression and the fight against it, although it could be general depression, or a response to a particularly hard-hitting life-changing event.

The lines "My soul is running on a path that I can not reach My brain is turning and my head is hurting everyday a little bit more" kind of sum up what it means to be depressed.

But while the song flits in and out of this dark space it is interspersed with up-lifting sounds and lines. "I can see the sky" - she has hope, and "it's a battle cry". A fierce shout that it won't defeat her.

Back to negatives - "I'm a zombie" "I don't know if I'll get through", and the desire for it all to be over "I wanna be floating in space", but to this negative thoughts she fights back - "I gotta stay, stay stay stay stay STAY!" She isn't giving up.

It ends with the repeated chorus showing the light at the end of the tunnel and the determination to get there.
