Close to the Glass Lyrics

Don’t even think
I’d bring my face
Close to the glass
Or some other place
Don’t even think
Never and again
Don’t even think
You’ll ever know
If you’re swimming in
Or outside the bowl
Don’t even think
Now and again

Cover art for Close to the Glass lyrics by Notwist, The

For me this song adresses a particular feeling when you decide not to fall for illusions ever again because you were hurt. You let your guard down, you trusted someone or something and they betrayed you. You're probably going to fall for more illusions in the future. Even in the instrumentation, it tries to capture that sense of rage and anxiety and desperation, audibly hurt and all over the place, chaotic and tumultuous.

My Interpretation

I love this song btw. And I feel that way about that song beause I've been in that position many times. Opening up and getting hurt. It's life and that's how we learn. We soon have to realize there's no light out of all the places. And we also have to learn to let go and not let these feelings poison us. Because faith is actually not that bad, it's purpose. Maybe that's why it's practically the first song in the álbum. And also why it ends with They Follow Me. "And I'm not afraid of nothing else".
