Q&A
1,000 Years Lyrics
Well, the moon I know, in the town I live, is steady as she waits.
It seems as though she yearns for me and calls me by my name.
Sometimes she says come to me, kiss me while it's late.
And other nights she's just hanging with the stars.
And I’ve see her waiting from all her mistakes
And what if he never comes when you call?
And, "Hey, it's alright" she says.
"Once upon a time I lived a perfect night.
Hey, in another life she says, in a dream of mine from a thousand years ago."
“Don’t look back,” I heard a voice.
In velvet I couldn't see.
The pictures then were black and white, and the details were in between.
I heard about a woman once, who did everything ever asked of her.
She died last week and her last words were, "It wasn't worth it."
And I've seen her patience through all her mistakes.
And who's gonna save you now?
And hey, it's alright she says. Once upon a time I lived a perfect night.
Hey, in another life she says, in a dream of mine from a thousand years ago.
And hey, it's alright she says. Once upon a time I lived a perfect night.
Hey, in another life she says, in a dream of mine from a thousand years ago.
Hey, it's alright she says. Hey, it another life she says.
Way back when when we became friends, I was you, you were my defense.
And quiet was the night.
You showed me that bridge, and it brought you home,
You told me about it and I never let it go,
and I guess I might've been doing the same.
Anyhow, quiet was the night.
It seems as though she yearns for me and calls me by my name.
Sometimes she says come to me, kiss me while it's late.
And other nights she's just hanging with the stars.
And what if he never comes when you call?

A nearly perfect song! I think it's about a friend of his that he compares to the moon. This girl stayed on the sidelines and waited for the right thing to happen to her. It left her with regret and she admitted that to the singer before she died.
But it could also be about pining for someone who is in love with someone else who is taken. She's going to hang with the stars and not care about how much you love her and want to be with her.
I would also like to throw out a alternative lyric to it wasn't worth it. I think she died and said it wasn't one thing-- that killed her.
Did I mention I love this song?
@outgothelights I get the feeling too that the song is about a love of somebody who has wasted their life loving the wrong person.

The lyric "I heard about a woman once..." spoke of the feelings of somebody who wasted their lives on somebody who didn't really love them back. Somebody who did everything ever asked of her by this person and never saw anything come of it. It wasn't worth it.
