My Holding Hand Is Empty Lyrics
Got a quiver full of fire, and a head full of rain
And I've been clinging to the drifting air
Been thinking 'bout the color of the dawn of spring
And the smell of her wind-blown hair
My holding hand is empty
And my reservations few
Been looking everywhere for something
I've been looking everywhere for you
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my heart it beats for the sight of you, June
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
But I'm not long for this world and I'll be on my way home soon
Got a pocket full of light, and a room full of shade
And I'm pitching in a violent sea
Been thinking 'bout the feeling of a golden ring
And the sting of true love's blade
My holding hand is empty
And my reservations few
Been looking everywhere for something
I've been looking everywhere for you
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my heart it beats for the sight of you, June
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
But I'm not long for this world and I'll be on my way home soon
Got a river full of ice, and a bed full of waves
And I'm spinning like a rolling tide
Been thinking 'bout all the ways the wind can turn
With the push and pull of time
My holding hand is empty
And my reservations few
Been looking everywhere for something
I've been looking everywhere for you
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my heart it beats for the sight of you, June
Oh my (oh my)
Oh my (oh my)
But I'm not long for this world and I'll be on my way home soon
And I've been clinging to the drifting air

It hit me when I was listening to this song for probably the 10th time that it may be about Johnny Cash and June Carter. The vocal effect on the background "Oh My"s sounds unmistakably imitable of Johnny Cash, and the lyrics fit perfectly - from the lover's name June to the premonition that he will soon be passing away to join her in the afterlife. Seems pretty likely - and pretty adorable if so.
