8 Good Reasons Lyrics
Don't know if I should quite sing this song
Don't know if it maybe might be wrong
But then again it maybe might be right
To tell you about the bullet and the red light
You know I'm not from this place
I'm from a different time different space
And it's real uncomfortable
to be stuck somewhere you just don't belong
But I got 8 good reason to stick around
8 good reasons
Well maybe 9 now
I had a dream one night
About a bullet and a red light
You know it felt all right
You know it actually felt quite nice
(If I could've gone
without hurting anyone
Like a child with a family Mom
Like a bird I would've been flown)
You know I don't much like life
I don't mind admittin that it ain't right
You know I Iove to make music
But my head got wrecked by the business
Everybody wanting something from me
They rarely ever want to just know me
I became the stranger no one sees
Cut glass, I've crawled upon my knees
But I got 8 good reason to stick around
8 good reasons
Well maybe 9 now
I had a dream one night
About a bullet and a red light
You know it felt all right
You know it actually felt quite nice
But I got 8 good reason to stick around

I love this song, I'm genuinely shocked no one has commented on it.
This bit always sends shivers down my spine:
"If I could have gone Without it hurting anyone Like a child, I would have found me mum Like a bird I would have been flown"
Great song. What are the 8 reasons though?
@Luvlivemusic In a 2014 interview she says the reasons are “my children’s eyes”, but kept coy about what the ninth one might be.

@Luvlivemusic This song is track 9 on the album, so my assumption is that the "8 good reasons" are the first 8 songs on the album "I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss", and the lyric "well maybe nine now" refers to this current song. This interpretation fits in with the line, "You know I love to make music".

I've played this song a lot. When I heard her son had died, I knew that she had lost one of her 8 good reasons.
A haunting part of the song for me is the dream about the bullet and the right light. 25 years ago I dreamed about being at a red light with a gun in the car just out of reach. In the dream, I knew if I could reach I would use it on myself and there would be relief. As the song says, it would be quite nice. After that dream, I knew I must never own a gun or even hold one.
Thank you for this song S. It helps.
@PJMcCann --the coincidence of the dream in the song and my dream, makes me wonder if this is a common dream.
