Shame
Wear the pity and the blame
Basking in the glow
A lovely crown of thorns

Cliche
Overdramatic display
An unwelcome show
Of steady undertow

You'll make 'em watch while you go down in flames
Self-inflicted pretty little martyr
If forcing empathy
Is as clever as you can be
We'll gladly watch while you go down in flames
Burn baby burn

Vain
You're the Abel and the Cain
No coincidence
you crave an audience

Stray
Committed to the decay
Fake mercy pose
And on and on it goes

You'll make 'em watch while you go down in flames
Self-inflicted pretty little martyr
If forcing empathy
Is as clever as you can be
We'll gladly watch while you go down in flames
Burn baby burn

    My Interpretation

This is my interpretation of the song. I've always thought this was about the stupidity of the story of Jesus Christ. Now hear me out I will try to explain every line. Verse 1: "Shame, Wear the pity and the Blame" This is in reference to the fact he was shamed, and took the pity and blame of humanity to the cross.

"Basking in the glow, A lovely crown of thorns." This is a biblical reference to the image of holiness Jesus has, and the fact that he had a crown of thorns.

"Cliche, Over dramatic display" This is the criticism begins, the fact that previous religions have had saviors and stories like this and that this is more about theatrics then simple forgiveness. Couldn't he just forgive humanity with animal sacrifices or fair punishment.

"An unwelcome show, Of steady undertow" The criticism continues, We didn't want these theatrics just for God to keep an image and make a bigger impression. Verse 2: "Vain, You're the Abel and the Cain" This is another biblical reference, That God is only focused on his own self image, thus vain. It also reference Abel and Cain, by saying he has the pureness of Abel, but took on the sins of Cain.

"No coincidence, You crave an audience" This refers to Gods in the old testament and how he wanted only worship and was getting people to worship, and how he still craves attention and worship.

"Stray, You're committed to the decay" This alludes to how God left the love and forgiveness meant by this sacrifice, since people still go to hell. Also how humans darkness and fall is needed for his plan.

"Fake mercy pose, And on and on it goes" This is in reference to the fact that this whole thing was pointless since people still go to hell even with Jesus' message of mercy and sacrifice, and how people keep preaching about his mercy. Courus: "You'll make them watch while you go down in flames" This is about the fact that people watched his sacrifice, and a new religion was made on this. Also he went to hell because of this thus go down in flames.

"Self inflicted pretty little martyr" This could have been avoid if god just forgave or gave fair punishment, thus Jesus was a self inflicted martyr.

"If forcing empathy, Is as clever as you can be, We'll gladly watch while you go down in flames" This could mean that since the religion is about turning the other cheek, forgiveness, and fake mercy and if that is as good as Jesus can do non-christians will gladly watch his sacrifice and him go to hell.

"Burn, Baby, Burn" This is just an added insult telling him to enjoy the worthless pain and suffering he endured.

Now this is just my interpritation, maybe you agree. However if you don't pleas comment your own interpretation and maybe I'll agree and change my mind.

I must agree with that intepr. At first I thought the Biblical allusions were just metaphors, but I think it's actually referring to the Bible.

I will disagree on some of the quote interpretations though.

"An unwelcome show Of steady undertow" An undertow is a rip current that drags you down in the water, so I think this statement is about how religion is dragoing society down to drown.

"You'll make 'em watch while you go down in flames Self-inflicted pretty little martyr If forcing empathy Is as clever as you can be We'll gladly watch while you go down in flames Burn baby burn"

This reminded me of the Buddhist monks who set themselves on fire to protest the Vietnam war, and by doing so we're forcing others to empathize with them. However, I that is just used as a metaphor to describe Jesus. God / Jesus is the one that got himself crucified, and made everyone watch as he died, so people would be forced to empathize with him and see him as a god that would sacrifice himself to save others. However Blue Stahl responds by saying that if the only way he can get our attention and worship is by tormenting himself, we will merely watch him die and ignore his message.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
