The Way We Did

You can try with every ounce of strength,

Everybody's got their human failings,
For some it's like a sea.
I was out there screaming and flailing --
You were my recovery.
Do you feel any different than the way you did?
People don't act like the way they did.
Music doesn't sound like the way it did.
Wish the world functioned like the way it did again.
Hold on to your dying day
And it still will find an escape.
You can try to lock it all away,
But it will just evaporate.
In the past, they made the same mistake:
Struck east when the north was for take.
A temporal kind of dismay
And the years just melt away.

Creepy people commiserate
And congregate in the slime.
Above the fray we elevate;
Their hands can't touch the divine.
Some say it's a catastrophe
That this is the mess we're in.

Who gives a fuck about any of them?"

Now that we've been through it,
Let's throw it in their faces.
