Back to the Shack Lyrics
Sorry guys, I didn't realize that I needed you so much
I thought I'd get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks
I ended up with nobody and I started feeling dumb
Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums
[CHORUS]
Take me back, back to the shack
Back to the Strat with the lightning strap
Kick in the door, go hardcore, rocking out like it's '94
Let's turn up the radio, turn off those stupid singing shows
I know where we need to go
Back to the shack
I finally settled down with my girl and I made up with my dad
Had to go and make a few mistakes so I could find out who I am
I'm letting all of these feelings out even if it means I fail
Cause this is what I was meant to do and you can't put that on sale
[CHORUS]
We belong in the rock world
There is so much left to do
And if we die in obscurity,
Oh well, at least we raised some hell
[CHORUS]
Let's turn up the radio, turn off those stupid singing shows
I know where we need to go
Back to the shack
I thought I'd get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks
I ended up with nobody and I started feeling dumb
Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums

I feel this verse is kind of an apology to all of Weezer's latest albums. Over the last couple albums, Rivers seemed to want to take center stage more and didn't really include the band as a whole like he use to. When Rivers mentions the thought of getting a new audience, i feel he's talking about changing up Weezer's style to try and attract different type of people to his music. Over the last decade or so, their musical style has changed a lot. After changing the music style, he's realizing not a lot of people like the new music as much as they enjoyed their old stuff. Because of this, Rivers is decided to stick to Weezer's roots by having him play lead guitar, and patrick wilson play the drums.

The chorus is basically saying they want to go back to their roots and back to where it all started, a shack/basement/garage. River's first guitar was a Fender Stratocaster with a lightning bolt strap. This has been an iconic strap for Rivers, and it kind of defined him. Rocking out like 1994 is in reference to when the band first started making music together. He is tired of trying to create catchy pop/vocally skilled songs. He just wants to go back to their roots, and be rock band again.
I finally settled down with my girl and I made up with my dad Had to go and make a few mistakes so I could find out who I am I'm letting all of these feelings out even if it means I fail Cause this is what I was meant to do and you can't put that on sale
River's is saying he has finally settled down, has a wife and kids. In one of his first songs, Say It Ain't So, Rivers mentions the poor relationship he had with his father. Over time, he has been able to mend that relationship. River's is also saying that he has mad a few mistakes (both musically and throughout his life), but those mistakes have helped him realize what hes meant to do. He's giving it his all, and even if he fails, he doesn't care.
CHORUS AGAIN
We belong in the rock world There is so much left to do And if we die in obscurity, Oh well, at least we raised some hell
Weezer belong in the rock world, and they are nowhere close to being done. They have a lot of projects to complete. Rivers says, if, heaven forbid, something were to happen to them, at least they had a good run and have made themselves known.
I think you're spot on for the most part. i would like to ad that I think the line "And if we die in obscurity/Oh well, at least we raised some hell", to me, refers to the band's dwindling sales. They used to sell millions for records, and I think their last record sold less than 100,000. "Obscurity" seems to be an acknowledgment that they aren't as famous/well-liked as they once were.
