Julie in the Weeds Lyrics

Julie lie down in the weeds and see something new
Something new
Julie from now on all the pain of youth
It will not trouble you
It will not trouble you

North, east, south, west
No one has a clue
Nobody quite knows what to do

Julie lie down in the weeds and see how I look at you
How I look at you

North, east, south, west
No one has a clue
Nobody quite knows what to do

There are some people
Who live in order to tell others what to do
Tell others what to do
As long as there remains steel in my veins
They will not trouble you
They will not touch you
Will not trouble you

Could this be about Julia, the girl who sits front row at every concert? Maybe the weeds is the crowd?

@mikevee33 I thought it was about Julia too because he suggests that she "see something new," which ironically, is like telling her what to do, but it's a sweet song.

I interpret this song as suggesting that Julie "see something new" simply for variety and balance, but not because it would be better. Because if you lie in the weeds the seed pods will stick to your clothes and hair and in some areas they are so sharp they will prick you and make you bleed. But you may see some blue skies instead of looking at the stage everyday. He is also saying he appreciates her and is protective of her from the hostile fans who don't get her obsessiveness (he does get it.)

My Interpretation

And when I posted my interpretation I didn't realize "in the weeds" was an expression. So maybe it's telling her to take a break from the complexities or take it easy. Who knows.

From Wiktionary:

in the weeds

(idiomatic) Immersed or entangled in details or complexities. (idiomatic, restaurant slang, of a cook or server) Overwhelmed with diners' orders.
