Song generally covers a one sided trust relationship, where the other partner swears they have the others back but when things go down they are nowhere to be found. Speaking from experience it sucks, the whole feeling of being let down and abandoned. Hell my life was a combination of this and one more night for three years on and off. Finally burned the map and picked a random road to walk down.

Music Video: Maps is a sad song... but it's an absolutely brutal music video. Because although the lyrics place Adam Levine's character as lonely and sad, the music video underlines the fact that he's also guilty - on that road I took a fall. There are mistakes that you will never get the chance to make right.

well I've been listening to this song for a few years and decided to throw it on repeat and here's my take on it... at the very beginning when he says I missed the taste of a sweeter life I miss the conversation... that can be related to me in the fact that even though I am married it does feel like it's needing to be in a lot more strengthen place in the marriage than what it is at the moment (hopefully it will get there with time)...

I'm changing all the stations... this to me sounds like he's trying to change himself to make the other person like them more. I have done this a few times and I can say from experience it just makes you miserable. it doesn't affect the other person whatsoever. they can come or go. it does not keep them especially if the way you are naturally isn't enough to keep them. then, that is on them...

I think that we had it all... todd is what everybody thinks when they think everything is going perfectly fine in a relationship or a marriage and the reality of it is it'll never be perfect and you won't have everything you want.

we drew a map to a better place but on that road I took a fall... that right there states that they were trying to make it amazing wayne, he ended up making a mistake and he took a fall in the process. the fall could be anything from. they decide to take some time away from each other to they break up... And in the next line it states oh baby why did you run away... this clearly states she left him...

in the chorus portion of this song it's stating why she wasn't there when he was at his lowest when he was going through his depression... speaking from experience with depression and people not having my back when I needed it the most it sucks and with that being stated he's trying to find a map that would lead him back to her when all of her maps redirect her back to him. so in the process they are never going to refind each other then and that's a major part of this song they want to get back together. at least he does but he will never find her because the maps he's taking are not taking him to her...

The next part when it's states I hear your voice at night. it's hard to resist temptation... that could mean a couple different things the thing that I think it represents is he wants her yet. he's tempted by other females at the same time And along his way he got distracted by other females... this is a very hard thing to deal with considering the fact when you break up with somebody and you want to get back with them, you do what you can to reignite the relationship whether it be just a dating one or a marriage one. and the biggest problem you run into is when you are separated you start seeing other females and looking at them and start thinking what could I have better than what I have right now and that is the biggest thing that is an issue because you want to be faithful to the one you want back. although at the same time you see other females and you get thinking hmm it would be nice to be with her and you then forget you're trying to get back to the one person originally that you fell for and that is what this whole song is based upon. he wants to be with one girl while during their time separate he looks at other females and starts thinking what he could be having over what he had. that's why it's called maps because a map is able to be read and found different ways to the same destination. and along the way you might have little hiccups here and there or detours and that's exactly what this is implying it. he's having a detour in a way to other females on his way back to the one that he wants to be with.

It is about them being there for there partner but there partner wasn't there for them when they needed them It states: But I wonder where were you?When i was at my worst,down on my knees

i think 'down on my knees' means they were begging for help but there partner didnt care.

He misses her and how it was. He was there for her at her worst, but she wasn't there for him when he needed her, all the roads she took came back to him therefore he's going to follow the map that leads him back to her. I like the tune and the beat, but these words are too ambiguous on what he means. He loves her, she doesn't love him, but the paths she takes lead her to him so he's following a map to her? He must have been drunk and wandering the streets lost when he wrote this.

To me it seems like "Maps" is a song written from Behati's perspective. This song was probably written around the time they reunited and rekindled their relationship. Adam let Behati down, he realized he's done shit, and regrets doing what he did to her. But they're still in love and wants to find one another again.

It could be that, or that by "where were you, when I was at my worst down on my knees" Adam is apologizing for whatever he did to Behati that was regrettable

All the roads she took lead to him Maps could the ways she got to him through the troubled relationship So he’s following the same routes to be with her. If the video is supposed to make the song clearer Then seems like he was there till the end but she seems to be dead ( meaning even though she took the roads that came to him she s Still finished. They show her dead not gone off somewhere. If you don’t watch the video he seems very persistent in his chase for her. He is followin Almost stubbornly singing Where were you when I need you I am coming to you anyways . You laid out the map that leads to you.

Your basic cynical, "break up to make up" song from Maroon 5. I do love this one, though.

Based on the words, Adams meaning on Wiki, and the music video in short I think it means the relationship fell, it isn't working the way they planned.
