Shatter Me Lyrics

I pirouette in the dark
I see the stars through me
Tired mechanical heart
Beats 'til the song disappears

Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
This is spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

Shatter me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

If only the clockwork could speak
I wouldn't be so alone
We burn every magnet and spring
And spiral into the unknown

Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
This is spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

Shatter me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

If I break the glass then I'll have to fly
There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing
The days stay the same
The world is spinning but only in grey
If I break the glass then I'll have to fly
There's no one to catch me if I take a dive
I'm scared of changing
The days stay the same
The world is spinning but only in grey
(Grey, grey, grey, grey, grey, grey, grey
Grey, grey, grey, grey, grey, grey, grey, grey
Only, only, only, only, only, only, only)

Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
This is spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

Shatter me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

To me, song is about wanting to make a change in your life, but also realizing how risky change can be.

The image of a music box ballerina in a globe is used as a metaphor. Spinning around in the dark, dancing the same dance and playing the same song until the mechanics stop working. ("We burn every magnet and spring, and spiral into the unkown.") She longs for freedom and wants the globe to be shattered. Though in order to be free, she would have to jump. This is the line of the song that really gets me;

"If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly, there's no one to catch me if I take the dive. I'm scared of change and the days stay the same, The world is spinning, but only in grey."

She makes a choice, and even though she's scared of change and has nobody to tell her the outcome, she's willing to make that choice anyway if it means she won't be stuck spinning around in a globe forever. This song is brilliant to me and extemely relateable in a poetic sort of way.

My Interpretation

@fixlly really good theory

Lindsey Stirling, when writing this song, had recently been recovering from anorexia nervosa and depression. She says that this piece of music is dedicated to her struggle and, eventually, recovery from those things.

[I pirouette in the dark I see the stars through me Tired mechanical heart Beats til the song disappears]

When a person has any mental illness (in Lindsey's case, and eating disorder) that person often finds it difficult to just get through the day. Trying to live with those negative feelings and a dark voice are wearying and causes the person to isolate and watch people as though they are in another world. He/she repeats the same cycle of getting up, existing, and acting okay several times.

[Somebody shine a light I'm frozen by the fear in me Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me So cut me from the line Dizzy, spinning endlessly Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!

Shatter me! Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!]

The ill person can remain silent in her/his struggle, but deep down desires to get out of the numbness that is brought with depression. Lindsey testifies that she was saved through her faith, and that the Holy Spirit helped save her from the diseases. This can apply to other people - they have or at least want someone or something to aid them and bring them out of their misery and sickness.

[If only the clockworks could speak I wouldn't be so alone We burn every magnet and spring And spiral into the unknown] With a mental illness, the person will likely develop self destructing tendencies. This ritual is kept secret, causing the person to feel more alone than usual. Sometimes with the ritual is a "voice" that influences the sick person to keep it up, and the person feels like that "voice" is a companion. This companion is continually causing problems, both with her/himself and the way he/she acts with other people (burn every magnet and spring). With anorexia, Lindsey would have pushed her loved ones away because the eating disorder would want her to keep hurting herself. This takes her into an even darker place that she had never been to until that point.

[If I break the glass, then I'll have to fly There's no one to catch me if I take a dive I'm scared of changing, the days stay the same The world is spinning but only in gray] Again, the person wants to get recover and get out of the negativity mental illnesses cause. However, admitting to needing help is very difficult because it includes acknowledging that he/she has a problem. Lindsey felt that despite her realization of where the depression and eating disorder were taking her, she could fall even farther if she tried to open up about her struggles. For anyone, the decision of whether to keep struggling alone or get help will consume her/him and they see things back - and - forth of the different possibilities on each side (the world is spinning but only in gray).

In the music video, the ballerina ends up breaking free from her glass ball (the isolation) and going into the world outside. This represents accepting help and recovering from the past and moving forward. Lindsey herself did get help and has been working hard at staying healthy and alive.

i think it may mean the feeling of ur mind\hope and happiness dispersing during something that can make you sad.for example abuse(to self or a loved one),bulling and\or death of a loved 1\n\n\n"Somebody shine a light\nI\'m frozen by the fear in me"\n\n\nthis part could be showing a fear over the fact that even 1 of this upsetting events alone could lead to depression,PTSD(Post-traumatic stress disorder),self harm or even suicide.\n\n\n"If only the clockworks could speak\nI wouldn\'t be so alone"\n\n\nthis shows of how alone people feel if these things happen to them\n\n\n"We burn every magnet and spring\nAnd spiral into the unknown"\n\n\nthis shows how people who have had these things happen to them are in a constants spiral\n\n\n"If I break the glass, then I\'ll have to fly\nThere\'s no one to catch me if I take a dive"\n\n\nthis shows how people who have had these things happen to them feel trapped in a torturous life until they run away from their problems but they fear that no one will be there for them if they do run away

My Opinion

@stacey1078 this may also relate to Lindsey Stirlings life since any different art(such as preforming arts(dancing, music and theater)) alow us to express our lifes.any pain or luxury can be expressed by art.

@stacey1078 I do in fact deal with my friend being abused, bullying and my grandpa and my cats kitten(jolteon) and my first cat(aerial) dying.

@stacey1078 also I'm Stacey1078 but on my phone I will confirm this when I get my computer account on a computer that has not permanently died????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
