An Island Lyrics

They said this fun is near the end
You've worn out welcome way too fast
You better bite your tongue

I need an island
And I need it fast
Some little island
Is all I ask

To put you on
To put you on

Stay there don't move
I think it's got fangs
Watch if they turn
Become the villains

Are you allowed to know
Are we allowed to know
Are you allowed to know (x2)

Just an island
Is all I ask
Some little island
A spot to cast

To put you on
To put you on

Force you to go

Some little island
One little island (x2)

To put you on (x4)

I believe this song is about banishing Miley Cyrus to a tiny, little island. "you better bite your tongue" "I think its got fangs" Think about it y'all.

I think you're right.

@manetrain Perhaps ... but don't think Chevelle would waste their time to write an song about her :P

@manetrain yes. I wish I could one up this again lol

This song to me is about how vanity / fame consumes a person and how the people around them get tired of it. And how that person doesn't realize that it will eventually fade, and will be left alone.

  • "They said this fun is near the end" And they try to warn this person, but he/she doesn't want to hear it.
  • "You've worn out welcome way too fast"
  • "You better bite your tongue"

That person has become so consumed that they cant see how they have changed or affected those around them negatively .

  • "I think it's got fangs" And they believe that others are just envious of their abilities/luck/wealth.
  • "Watch if they turn, Become the villains"

And so one by one this persons ties with those around him/her are severed until that person is left alone on "An Island"

My Interpretation

@Kelko BUT they want to put someone on the island ... it is NOT about them escaping.

Could be about many things an ex-girlfriend, family member, friends etc. etc.

I think the diss towards commercial music in general makes complete sense.

The vagueness of the lyrics could honestly apply to any money driven attention seeking celebrity in general.

I mean i can't tell you how many people suck the life out of the world, and should be left on an island alone...cause it's the only way to truly stop them.

La Gárgola landed at #3 on the top billboard charts (not just rock but in general, the only albums they were beat by were movie sound tracks.) They led a rally via social media to fight for real music.

In the end, this song is especially un apologetic in it's essence of rock. It's heavy, lick driven, emotional, angry, vague, and an ultimate middle finger to anyone that feeds off of the world negatively.

My Opinion

They posted a link to a video on their facebook where they talk about some of the songs on the new album. They said this song is about having a bad day and imagining an island to put the person you're mad at on. They also said the song title is the name of their favorite bar.

Song Fact

I don't think this song necessarily addresses celebrities but more generally anyone that you're mad at. You want to be able to put that person away and keep them at a distance from you. It might even be someone you usually like but for whatever reason, need to be able to "put away." I like the approach - you're not escaping from them, you're sending them away.

When I first listened to this song, and as almost any introvert would think, I thought it was simply about hiding/running from society to be by oneself. Now that's all fine and dandy, but I think it's now about people like Lindsey Lohan who don't know how to deal with their fame and eventually turn themselves into villains in the eyes of their friends, family, etc.

My Interpretation

@BumSkillet AGAIN at first thought it does sound like you say, but they want to PUT someone on an island, not escape themselves.
