How Long Will I Love You Lyrics

How long will I love you
As long as stars are above you
And longer if I can
How long will I need you
As long as the seasons need to
Follow their plan
How long will I be with you
As long as the seas bound to
Wash up on the sand

How long will I want you
As long as you want me to
And longer by far
How long will I hold you
As long as your father told you
As long as you can

How long will I give to you
As long as I live through you
However long you say
How long will I love you
As long as stars are above you
And longer if I may

How long will I love you
As long as stars are above you

Cover art for How Long Will I Love You lyrics by Ellie Goulding

This song is a beautiful portrayal of the speakers unconditional love and loyalty to someone but Somehow I don't find it to be just cute and happy. The feelings that the speaker shows for her love prove that she is completely and utterly attached to this person and nothing could stop her from loving him forever. I believe this is what makes the song sad because at the possibility that he were to leave or they couldn't be together it would break her to pieces. She says "how long will I love you? As long as you want me to. And longer by far" this shows how even if he were to stop loving her she wouldn't stop loving him and it would take her much longer to get over him because she saw herself with him forever. All of her comparisons show that she is in this love for the long haul. Therefore the idea that he might leave her or that her feelings are much stronger than his exemplify a sense of one-sided love that can tear someone apart.

Not sure if this is right or if it is just supposed to be cute and happy but this is what I relate to right now so this is what I get from it

@SXS101 You do need to have a different frame of reference to look at the things, the perfect one where he also loves the same way she does . They care for each other n love like any one could ever love some one. They like to feel & hold each other. and grow old together.

@SXS101 i think when you understand its a mother singing to her child .then it falls into place . a mothers love is unconditional.
