Morning Lyrics

Woke up this morning, found a love light in the storm
Looked up this morning, saw the roses full of thorns
Guns are falling, they don't have nowhere to go
Oceans of diamonds always shine, smooth out below

Can we start it all over again, this morning?
I lost all my defenses, this morning
Won't you show me the way it used to be?

I've gone all around 'til there's nothing left to say
Wrote it all down into something that couldn't be said
I tore it all down and buried me underneath the wave

Can we start it all over again, this morning?
I let down my defenses, this morning
It was just you and me, this morning
I fought all out of guesses, this morning
Won't you show me the way it could've been?

Initially I thought this song was about a lost love, but after many more listens I think this is a song of symbolic rebirth, or a renewed love of life.

That among all of life's hardship (storm, thorns) the singer has found a new beginning (morning) and reflects on what it would have been like if they had the revelation sooner (would you show me the way it could have been?)

(Can we start it all over again) is a rhetorical question for a higher power, as to ask "is it possible to symbolically be a clean slate, because I know that this physical life cannot be rewound."

The last verse before the chorus symbolizes the intangibility of resilience, returning to being at peace with life after a treacherous hardship.

Woke up this morning

From a long night in the storm

Looked up this morning

Saw the roses full of thorns

Mountains are falling

They don't have nowhere to go

The ocean's a diamond

That only shines when you're alone

Can we start it all over again?

This morning

I lost all my defenses

This morning

Won't you show me the way it used to be

We've gone all around

Till there's nothing left to say

We wore it all down

Into something that couldn't be saved

We tore it all down

And buried me underneath the weight

Can we start it all over again?

This morning

I let down my defenses

This morning

It was just you and me

This morning

I've run all out of guesses

This morning

Won't you show me the way it could have been

I think this is waking up the next morning after a fight with your lover/spouse and feeling regret and wanting to make amends and start over today.

"Oceans of Diamonds always shine" (the night sky/sleeping on it) smooth out below (the problems/fights/bad feelings below/down on earth)

He's giving up defending his side of the fight and asking for the other to join him, and to show how it could have been/could be when they don't fight like that anymore.
