Huey Newton Lyrics

Feelings flash cards
Fake knife real ketchup
Cardboard cutthroats
Cowboys of Information
Pleasure dot loathing dot Huey dot Newton
Oh it was a lonely, lonely winter

Fuckless porn sharks
Toothless but got a big bark
Live children blind psychics
Turned online assassins
So Hale-Bopp, Hail Mary, hail Hagia Sophia
Oh it was a lonely, lonely winter

Entombed in a shrine of zeroes and ones
you know, you know
With fatherless features, you motherless creatures
you know
In perpetual night oh it's terribly frightening
you know, you know
You got the pop and the hiss in the city of misfits
you know
Safe safer safest, faith for the faithless
Dim dim and dimmer sucker for sinners

I'm entombed in a shrine of zeroes and ones
you know you know
With fatherless features, you motherless creatures
you know
In perpetual night oh it's terribly frightening
you know, you know
You got the pop and the hiss in the city of misfits
you know
Safe safer safest, faith for the faithless

"A shrine of zeros and ones" is the remnants of your life on the internet after you die. No idea what the rest means, but I love this song.

"Fake knife real ketchup" has to be one of the best lyrics ever, and this on an album that starts "Oh what an ordinary day/Take out the garbage, masturbate". You'd think she couldn't top that, but she did!

Seems to me it's a remarkably eloquent song about the remarkably ineloquent trolls of the internet. "Fuckless porn sharks", hahahahaha.

My Interpretation

I agree with the interpretation that the song is about NEET internet trolls, and I have something to add about this line in particular:

"Oh, you got the pop in the hiss In the city of misfits, you know"

I believe the actual lyric is "pop AND the hiss," and it would make sense if she's referring to hedgehog behavior. When hedgehogs feel threatened or just plain pissed off, they hiss and exhibit "popping" behavior, which is what it's called when they curl up and jerk/jump with their spines all up.

The lyric makes me think of the dumb little fights you see in internet comment threads, especially on sites like 4chan which are made up of people competing to be the biggest/toughest asshole. Having the "pop and the hiss" in the "city of misfits" is being the toughest and nastiest loser- but still a loser.
