Let It Go Lyrics
The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation,
And it looks like I’m the Queen.
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried
Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway
It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all
It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I’m free
Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry
Here I stand
And here I'll stay
Let the storm rage on
My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back,
The past is in the past
Let it go, let it go
When I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation,
And it looks like I’m the Queen.
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried
Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know
Let it go, let it go

Definitely one of the best Disney songs hands down. Same goes for the movie itself. I'm glad they're making a comeback of having meaningful movies, that may even be more complex than it ever was before. And I say this while growing up watching Disney Classics.
I feel like this can relate to just about anyone, especially if one has dealt with isolation due to mental illness or if they feel they're being rejected by their peers. I'm one of them.
"Don’t let them in, don’t let them see Be the good girl you always have to be Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know Well, now they know"
Pretty much sums up when I realized what I actually got myself into for the sake of other people's gain. I didn't even realize it until it was happening and the very people who tried to make it seem like what was good for my sake went against me when I 'changed' and realized this.
What I also love about the movie itself that it isn't all stereotypical about the princes and princesses and that true love only comes romantically (or 'the kiss') like how they first gave as the impression of it. In the end, love comes in all forms that may even be more selfless than the romantic love itself. Many people try finding that love romantically and think that's all there is.
Frozen went through several story iterations before settling on the version we saw. It was based on "The Snow Queen", and in early versions Elsa was the principle villain. This song was first composed in that context, and both its power and contradictions relate to how the story changed.
So, this song was originally how song of how the Princess became the Evil Snow Queen, and several of the lyrics are almost stereotypical of movie villains: "No right, no wrong, no rules for me" - that is almost word-for-word what Voldemort says.
And this is its power -- It is so well written and performed that we find ourselves cheering her transformation. And yet, as adults, we are aware of the contradictions. For children, Elsa is both terrific and terrifying. A role model, and a warning. These contradictions run deep.
In the context of the the story, we see the that Elsa is lying to herself throughout the song. She says that is "never going back", but we later see that she does still care for her sister and for Arendelle. Her bravado unravels as soon as it is challenged.
But perhaps we can just share this moment with her. She has had a seriously damaged childhood, from being told that she is a danger, that her natural powers must be hidden, that she is evil. Her creative skills have been suppressed. Her parents must surely rate as two of the most insidious villains in the Disney canon. So let us celebrate her freedom, her epiphany and the brilliance of her creativity.
wow,no comment? okay- that first of all, this song is the best Disney song ever made. beats everything with one hand around its back. i think this song has so many interpretations i cant write it all in one comment' but ill try to make the most of it.
this song is of course an empowerment song, but not necessarily a good empowerment. "No right, no wrong, no rules for me"- it could be an evil song just like that. sounds like jafar when he became a jini. with great power comes great responsibility, and she is still a child. she gave-up on her self completely. she keeps telling herself that shes okay with the cold\isolation and that she only needs herself. infact all the pepole were just keeping her down from herself. and we saw that around other pepole after the song she still couldnt use her powers. "let the storm rage on"- her feelings. shes basically a teen who didnt grow up because of a missed childhood, so now when she is an adult, she wants to smash her limits and explore herself. the church and the state were keeping her away from her abilities and imagination so now when she gave up on everything, she tries to built a new world for her, but she still cant let go of the past (anna). family is the most important column of our life no mater how hard we try to convince yourself. "the past is in the past"- only pepole who dont really feel that way say it, trying to believe it. another very important meaning is that humanity can climb up and be god, but only if we forget all the rules socaiety gave us. shes giving up on her queens outfit, witch symbolizes the monarchy + church + state. all the ideals which keep extremely harsh rules on all human kind only so we could live with each other. if we could forget about morals and use all of our powers. we could imagine everything and bring it too life. her powers represent human imagination. and when she put her white dress (divine color) and walked like a sexual person, shes saying shes free as an animal. when she climbs on the staircase over the pit, it means we can conquer everything with our imagination. and she make a palace and a snowman out of nothing, it says that we r the true gods of earth and we r the true creators.
I don't think of this song as an evil one, how can you think so? Elsa really differs from Jafar, she wasn't as cruel as him. I just love the part when she says "I'm not going back, the past is in the past" which means we don't have be to be trapped into the past, because it's gone, and the best thing to do is to try to make a new and happy life. I guess you're taking it too hard: Monarchy? True creators?! Come on, it's only an animation for kids - and also teens, and adults who still...

I guess you're taking it too hard: Monarchy? True creators?! Come on, it's only an animation for kids - and also teens, and adults who still enjoy being a child - and it has many beautiful things to say, such as when you look at obstacles with distance and logic, you realize that they are small and can easily be controlled and removed, and you shouldn't be afraid of them. (It's funny how some distance, makes everything seem small, and the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all...)
Given the crucial timing of this song within the movie, when Elsa's icy powers are awakened to their full extent, and finally she's using them not involuntarily, because she's afraid - but because she can, and she WANTS TO, I'm wishing the lines had gone more like this:
Let it go, let it snow Can’t hold it back anymore Let it go, let it snow Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care What they’re going to say Let the storm rage on, The cold never bothered me anyway
The "snow" part reenforcing the barriers she actively creates to keep others out, for the sake of her personal freedom.
This movie vaguely reminds me of Steven King's "Firestarter". Some of the same themes....
IN MY BEST bravado. Let it go, Let it gooooooooooooooo
Stop accessing my life, I never gave you permission. I couldn't care less about what your opinion is of me, you're a shitty person period. You violate all the laws of humanity. Leave me alone and find a new hobby. Stop wasting the precious gift of your life that you were given to try and knock sombody down because of your own issues, I' am not your punching bag or entertainment. Thats all this is about and ever was. You have no control over me or fragile and or fascinating mind ha. You have zero effect or influence and because this was always a game to you, you may have won many battles but you lost because 3 years later you're spending your life on something that has zero investment in you. Now move on please and skip rocks......
In my opinion, and I am really sorry in advance to all those people who won't like what I will say.
The song for me is about coming out to my family. The isolation is me and my feelings all bottled up inside with no one to confide. (Don't let them in, don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be. Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know Well, now they know) I didn't want anyone to know so I had to keep it to myself. But I finally did it, I told everyone. "Now they know". I don't care about what people say I let it go. And (the cold never bothered me anyway) is just how I feel now that my father is very cold to me, he doesn't even speak to me but sin I have the love of my brothers and sisters and specially my mom, it doesn't bother me at all. Now I'm living alone, I can be me, and all those feeling are behind me and like the song says they really seem small.
This is how I like to look at this song, a song that shows how good it feels to finally be who I want to be, not what everyone wants me to be.
