Somebody remind me where I am
Miami or Timbuktu?
Did I ever tell you my uncle's monkey ran away from the zoo?
Would you tell me what this all means?
What happens if I go through that door?
'Cause I'm looking up at the ceiling, but it's turning into the floor

When I'm bored, I, kinda drift away,
I'm not sure, quite, why we work all day
I've been thinking, and I've got this plan

Let's go, right now

Come meet me in the sky I'll be waiting for you
And we can't hear what they say
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)
Sing, sing along, along any song you want to
Now we're so high, it can't rain
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)

I don't like dropping names but Kurt Cobain is all in my face
How the hell am I gonna tell him Elvis already took first base?
In and out of the blue this cruise is losing altitude, all we need
Is a little more elevation, take me back to where I can breathe

When I'm bored, I, kinda drift away
I'm not sure, quite, why we work all day
I've been thinking, and I've got this plan

Let's go, right now

Come meet me in the sky I'll be waiting for you
And we can't hear what they say
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon
Sing, sing along, along any song you want to
Now we're so high, it can't rain
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)

Shake it, sha-shake it, shake it now
Gimme, gi-gimme, gimme some
Sailing sa-sailing through the clouds
Trippin' trip trip it now

Shake it, sha-shake it, shake it now
Gimme, gi-gimme, gimme some
Sailing sa-sailing through the clouds
Trippin' trip trip it now

Come meet me in the sky I'll be waiting for you
And we can't hear what they say
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon
Sing, sing along along any song you want to
Now we're so high it can't rain
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)

Come meet me in this
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)
Come meet me in this
Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon (ha)

    My Interpretation

Okay, I don't think this song really has a meaning, but if I could take a guess, I think it would be about getting high and going to some type of euphoric land where you're happy. Lily sings:

"Come meet me in the sky I'll be waiting for you And we can't hear what they say Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon"

I think it also may be about going up into a land where she can't make any type of music she wants and can't hear arse holes like the one below.

I actually think it's about suicide. Deciding whether to go through the door, I've got this plan, getting high where it can't rain, meet me in the sky.. Plus the Kurt Cobain reference... Those can all be interpreted as suicide thoughts.

I have to admit though, that it could also be about getting high, as some of the lyrics fit that also. Maybe it's supposed to sound like either?

    Just my opinion.

I think this is about suicide, since Lily strikes me as the kind of artist who actually has meaning behind her words- I think also the light bubblegum pop style would really contrast with the suicide idea, which would be pretty cool? If you imagine the author as talking metaphorically about suicide, it makes a lot of sense too. The first verse is wondering what will happen if they kill themselves, the bridge before the first chorus are actual symptoms of depression; zoning out and wondering why people work can be extended as wondering what the point is in anything. The chorus, when you think of the sky as being heaven, is very straight forward in saying that in the 'air balloon' there's nothing bad, no one can touch you there, it doesn't rain, etc. Post chorus 1 she mentions Elvis and Kurt Cobain, both who had self-inflicted deaths, to a certain degree [this point is definitely debatable, couldn't really figure anything else out though] . then the author speaks about [what can be interpreted as] the suicidal thoughts faltering, and they want them to come back, probably because it makes them feel free, like there's an escape. [very common feeling/thought process for suicidal individuals] I'm tired, so that's a pretty lame analysis but my interpretation is that its about suicide. Either way, I love the song, even if it actually is meaningless pop lyrics, its fun. Suicide would be really deep though, I'd really congratulate Lily if that was her inspiration behind it.

I think this song is about kicking back, having a drink, and just having fun. Not everything has to have a deep meaning/depressing story. That might be why she referenced Kurt Cobain...he wrote a lot of songs with deep meanings, but he also wrote songs that literally made no sense and were just jokes (Smells Like Teen Spirit, anyone?).

I think this is a dirty song. She is fantasizing about sex with Elvis in some mushroom trip she is having and in her dream she is wondering how to tell Kurt Cobain that Elvis took her virginity (elvis took first base) 'base' might be a reference to drugs also.

Kurt is 'all in her face'.. could be talking about a cumshot lol but it could also be that Kurt found out aboput Elvis and was not too pleased.

Uncle's Monkey is a reference to the penis of her uncle. Her uncle may have had sex with her but she doesn't blame him for wanting to get out of the 'zoo' where he felt trapped.

There's lots of ways to interpret this song but I think I prefer the rude ones : ()

I think this song is about being bored and daydreaming just to get away from everything - "when I'm bored, I kinda drift away".

"Come meet me in the sky I'll be waiting for you And we can't hear what they say Up in my air balloon, air balloon, air balloon" I feel this would be about ignoring the person who keeps talking to her and another friend. This could be another way of saying she has her "head in the clouds" which is a phrase for not paying attention to what's being said or daydreaming.

When she's not paying attention to reality, nothing can bring her down - "now we're so high, it can't rain".

Just saying what I heard. :)

I like the idea that it could be about suicide but I think it's actually about being high on drugs. The song starts: "Somebody remind me where I am" "Cause I'm looking up at the ceiling, but it's turning into the floor" and all the rest of the lyrics also fit. "In and out of the blue this cruise is losing altitude, all we need is a little more elevation" would indicate drugs rather than suicide, which would be a trip straight up. Also the way it's set in an almost too perfect idyllic field may allude to Strawberry Fields, another song about being high.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
