Moulinette Lyrics

Even in the dark
There's a light above in the sky
And even as it fades
I'll hold my breath and wait

At last, there will be sound above
At last, there will be gold far and wide
For the things of the past

Oh, the flash will fill
A thousand miles with white
Dance with me, and dance with all the noise that fills the sky
Blue and gold and fire and cold will never be in time
Here a thousand days a thousand nights will pass us by

Even through the night
I will wait for this my love
To lie like the snow
Falls like destiny

At last, there will be sound above
At last, there will be gold far and wide
For the things of the past

Oh, the flash will fill
A thousand miles with white
Dance with me, and dance with all the noise that fills the sky
Blue and gold and fire and cold will never be in time
Here a thousand days a thousand nights will pass us by

Oh, oh,

Blue and gold and fire and cold will never be in time
Dance with me, and dance with me, then lay me down to die
Oh, I've come a thousand miles...

Cover art for Moulinette lyrics by Anna Calvi

This song has such a timeless, almost nostalgic feel to it that I can't help but feel it is a lover's ballad to a loved one, who they have been separated from for many years. They are reflecting on the past through an imagined conversation, yet there is hope that they shall be reunited, hence the 'at last, there will be sound above... gold far and wide, for the things of the past.'

It is a wonderful celebration of memories and youth and quite possibly one of Anna's best songs in terms of lyrics. The imagery is just sublime.
