Eightfold Lyrics
I guess ill wait in line for the next life
Put all my coattails on to impress you
Faux nihilist cop inside
Blessing everyone
Been waiting all this time
Let me in
I'm alright
Cause they say
What they want
Preaching males
Ego high
Pushed aside
Pushed behind
Just shut up
You'll be fine
Cause I'm waiting for an answer
Give me my next line
Waiting for an answer
I wont eightfold now
They got the holy shakes
Glossolalia
They'll pop like soda now
Let me in
I'm alright
Cause they say
What they want
Preaching males
Ego high
Pushed aside
Pushed behind
Just shut up
You'll be fine
Cause I'm waiting for an answer
Give me my next line
Waiting for an answer
I wont eightfold now
Waiting for an answer
I wont eightfold now
Waiting for an answer
I wont eightfold now
Watered eyes and vision kings
Selling everything
Chirping with a frown
England couch life aint the thing
Like a magazine
A rut stuck in your mind
Cause they say
What they want
Preaching males
Ego high
Pushed aside
Pushed behind
Just shut up
You'll be fine
Cause I'm waiting for an answer
Give me my next line
Waiting for an answer
I wont eightfold now

Officially from the band:
Two songs – ‘Eightfold’ and ‘Gold Coast’ – came together the week we were heading into the studio. Going into pre-production we felt the record was getting too soft for our liking and we had thrown away so many of the heavier tracks. I stumbled through some riffs I was working on and the band said “What the hell are you doing – finish those songs now!” I literally finished writing the songs in pre-production and didn’t have lyrics until I started vocals in the studio. Having played two shows with Cloud Nothings definitely helped shaped these songs – they’ve become one only favourite bands recently.
Speaking as Siddhartha, the Buddha, this song is about the eightfold path that is used to achieve Nirvana. This can be justified in the song where it says "I won't eightfold now" and "I guess I'll wait in line for the next life." Remember to live with the 4 noble truths and don't forget to live in moderation ;) Buddha out
@siddharthag That's a keen insight, but the rest of the song doesn't really match with, especially considering the line is "I won't eightfold", there are other spiritual references like "holy shakes" and "glossolalia" which are Christian references. The album has quite a few spiritual references, I'd not be surprised to here that some of the band went to church at some point in their life.
