This is what interpret the song as:
I think this song is about a guy who always gets screwed over by people and he does not know why. When people screw him over, he starts blaming himself and he gets really upset and frustrated. People always get his hopes up and then they let him down. He loses himself in the process of trying to make friends. He does whatever he can to try and keep them around. This guy doesnt get anything out of these short term friendships, he doesnt learn his lesson or anything. He is extremely dependent on other people in life.
"Ive lost a part of me cause I am just an open book for everyone to see." Here, he is saying that he lost part of himself and who he really is in the process of trying to make friends and keep them.
"I might be temporarily blind but im not stupid." This means that deep down, he knows he shouldnt change himself and be someone hes not to get friends. But he is so desperate that he is blinded by it all.
"Can you tell me how you feel and look me in the face?" Here, he is asking one of his fake friends to just be honest with him and stop being fake. He just wants to be like everyone else.
Overall, he doesnt understand why he cant make any friends or why people always screw him over. It seems that everytime he makes a friend, they are good for a while and then all of a sudden they leave him. In reality, he doesnt want to admit it but he has a disorder where hes obsessed with people and being liked. He has compulsive urges to make friends and those short term friendships alwags seem to die. It drives him literally crazy.
