Ba55 Lyrics

I want a fire that could burn me clean
Light the sky with my black-eyed dreams
And let my soul fly
And let my soul fly

I want a fire burning down the door
Let the wounds of my embers soar
And let my soul fly
And let my soul fly

Let it go (let it go)

Yeah, let it go

Pavement beneath my feet
I watch the white lines fly
Nothing between us here but the black blue sky
Suspended up in the air, like a still life
Yeah, we're suspended up into the air, like a still life

Let it go
Let it go
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean
I believe you're the fire that could burn me clean

And let my soul fly
And let my soul fly

Pavement beneath my feet
I watch the white lines fly
I want a fire that could burn me clean
I want a fire that could burn me clean

And let it go

"My wife says that surfing is like a form of baptism for me, that my time in the saltwater washes me clean. Often I come back from surfing ready for life in ways that I wasn't before: quicker to laugh, slower to get angry, more eager to help. The ocean puts me in my place- a finite creature humbled by the seemingly infinite expanse of ocean before me.

The refining experiences of life are not only found in water. At times it feels like a trial by fire- almost as though the impurities are melted away so that the soul can shine from beneath. The lyrical inspiration for BA55 was that refining fire. The experience will leave you humbled, maybe even broken. But there everything is different on the other side- there's a new found purpose, a deeper understanding of life." -- Jon Foreman

I don't know exactly what the song is about, but here are my thoughts:

The song is basically about Jesus being the fire that burns us clean. As for the title, I don't think there is a deep hidden meaning. Personally, I believe that it is just an inside joke for the band. When talking about the song, they mention how the song started as just the bassline that tom wrote. BA55 looks a lot like "bass" on the back of the ep. That's all that I got.
