Sinners Lyrics
Our lives are stores, waiting to be told
In search of silver linings, we discovered gold
And judgment taught us that our hearts were wrong
But they're the ones that we'll look down upon
The rules say our emotions don't comply
But we'll defy the rules until we die
So lets be sinners to be saints
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
You showed me feelings I've never felt before
We're making enemies, knocking on the devil's door
But how can you expect me not to eat,
When the forbidden fruit tastes so sweet?
So lets be sinners to be saints
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
So lets be sinners to be saints
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
In search of silver linings, we discovered gold
And judgment taught us that our hearts were wrong
But they're the ones that we'll look down upon
But we'll defy the rules until we die
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
We're making enemies, knocking on the devil's door
But how can you expect me not to eat,
When the forbidden fruit tastes so sweet?
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
Lets start fires for heavens sake
Our hearts are too ruthless to break
And lets be winners by mistake
The world may disapprove
But my world is only you
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me
And if we're sinners then it feels like heaven to me

One of my favorite songs! To be honest, I believe this song is about a gay couple. Most notably the lyric "the world may disapprove", typically songs with a Romeo and Juliet theme just mention family. Since being gay is considered a sin in a lot of religions, that also adds to my theory.
I feel like this song is about someone from a strict, possibly religious family/ background who has been a complete rule-follower for most of her life. She has never really done anything wrong and always kept her emotions under control. Then, she meets someone she had been taught to avoid romantically, most likely another girl, for most of her life. Taught that this would cause her trouble and be her own personal "forbidden fruit." A Romeo-and-Juliet situation. They fall into a sweet love, and the girl's lover shows her a different way to live, a happier, more care-free way. The girl starts to abandon her previous world-view, and she believes life with her girlfriend is much better than life without her. She is the true winner, even if everyone else calls them "sinners" and tells them they're "knocking on the devil's door." I really like this song. It's really sweet.
